Physiology session or full body MOT? 🩺🫀

Last week our First Year Healthcare Science Apprenticeship students got involved in a range of practical tasks including peak flow measurements 💨, blood pressure checks 🩸, ECG heart rate testing 📈 and 6-minute walking tests to see how far they could walk with commands and encouragement along the way 🚶‍♀️

A brilliant practical session combining clinical skills, teamwork, and a little healthy competition too 👏💪

✨ A Great Day at the Lab show in Nottingham✨

A great day for a few of our Science Technicians and Lab Manager attending the SLS Lab Show in Nottingham today! 🧪🔬

It was an amazing, fun and engaging experience visiting exhibition stalls from SLS suppliers including Thermo Fisher, Eppendorf, Sysmex, Sarstedt, Meile, Randox, IBMS, and more, whilst exploring the latest laboratory innovations and technologies 🔬

The event really highlighted how supportive and forward-thinking SLS are within the laboratory industry, bringing together so many fantastic suppliers, new ideas, and opportunities all in one place.

We also enjoyed listening to insightful talks throughout the day, including discussions around sustainability and the future of laboratory science. 🌍

Overall, it was a brilliant and valuable day filled with learning, networking, and discovering exciting developments within the industry — keep an eye out for some of their new products and ideas making their way into our labs soon! 👀🧪

Level 4 lab teaching has officially wrapped up after a final few weeks of group work investigating the fascinating world of slime mould 🧫✨

Students explored how slime mould responded to different oat treatments 🥣, temperatures 🌡️, pH levels 🧪and more, before analysing their results and presenting their final assessed scientific posters in groups.🧑‍💻📊
Slime mould is a unique organism-like protist that can move, respond to its environment and solve surprisingly complex problems despite having no brain 🍄🔬

A huge well done to everyone for all your hard work this year — you’ve all done brilliantly, and we can’t wait to see you again next year! 👏🎓

LEVEL 4 🙋‍♂️How are you feeling moving into Second Year (Level 5) soon?
