Congratulations to Dr Helen Yates on the successful defence of her PhD thesis today! Dr Yates' work was titled "Staying Alive: Crime, Agency, and Trauma during the Great Irish Famine of 1845-1852" and made use of digitised records of Ireland's judicial and penal systems during this traumatic period of Irish History.

Helen was supervised by Dr Tony Craig and Dr Jo Turner who would like to thank her examination panel, Prof James Treadwell, Dr Ciaran McCabe and Dr Sharon Mallon (chairing).

Helen joined University of Staffordshire as an undergraduate mature student in Modern History and completed her BA, MA, and PhD here with our team.

Congratulatations to Dr Alex Haycock on the successful defence of his PhD thesis today! Dr Haycock's work focused on, ‘The Use of Non-Destructive Archaeological Methods to Digitise and Present Uncatalogued and Privately-Owned Material Culture Collections and Associated Object Biographies'.

He was supervised by Prof Caroline Sturdy Colls and William Mitchell from the University of Huddersfield and Dr Rachel Bolton-King from Nottingham Trent University. His thesis was examined by Dr Andrew Wedgebury from the University of Staffordshire (where his doctorate was awarded) and Prof James Jordon from the University of Southampton.
