We are inviting local visitor economy businesses and SME leaders across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to contribute to an important tourism policy research project at the University.

On Thursday 4th June (09:00–13:00), we will be hosting a focused roundtable discussion at the Catalyst Building, Leek Road Campus, Stoke-on-Trent, exploring what sustainable tourism really looks like in practice for our region.

The session will bring together industry voices to discuss:
• The real challenges facing tourism and hospitality businesses
• Workforce and skills pressures
• Regeneration and growth ambitions
• Opportunities for stronger collaboration across the sector

The aim is to develop a policy paper that reflects the lived realities of businesses and provides clear, practical recommendations to help inform future government decision-making.

This is a small, professionally focused and fully voluntary session. All contributions will be anonymised in line with University research ethics and GDPR requirements. Refreshments will be provided.

If you would like to take part, we’d love to have your voice in the conversation.

Our Level 4 and Level 5 Visitor Attraction and Resort Management students were given a rare and unique opportunity to take part in the repainting of the iconic Corkscrew at Alton Towers Resort.

Now standing proudly at the front of the park, the Corkscrew is a powerful symbol of the resort’s rollercoaster heritage. This refurbishment ensures it continues to inspire guests and celebrate the rich history of one of the UK’s most iconic attractions.

This hands-on experience provided our students with the chance to engage directly with heritage conservation, attraction management, and real-world industry practice bringing learning to life beyond the classroom.

Alba shared:
"I really appreciated this opportunity to bring a piece of Alton Towers heritage to life! My family has been tied to this park since the Black Hole, and I am so proud to have had this chance to be further connected to it."

Rain added:
"Being part of the team to paint the Corkscrew was such a fantastic experience. Ever since joining Alton Towers, the heritage and history have been such a major pull and getting involved has really made the resort feel like home."

Experiences like this highlight the importance of industry collaboration, employability skills, and immersive learning within tourism and attraction management education.
