Has someone knocked on your door stating they are a member of the council?
Here is what you need to know:
This is a notice to state that the council are in fact conducting checks on many of our properties, including those across Shelton and the wider Stoke on Trent area.
During some visits, students may be asked to invite officers into their accommodation so that the council can provide advice and undertake informal checks of matters such as smoke alarms, fire doors and other fire safety measures.
This is completely normal, and all a part of an official council process!
The aim of the project is to better understand the number of small HMOs operating in the area and to ensure that they are compliant with relevant housing legislation and are being managed appropriately.
If you have any questions or concerns you can feel free to:
Ask to see identification! Official representatives of the council will be wearing Stoke Council IDs. If they do not have this, you are within your right to refuse entry.
