UHI NWH Stornoway We are a UHI partner:
Where learning means more | Far a bheil ionnsachadh a’ ciallachadh barrachd Where learning means more. Where we learn helps to define us.

We’re more than a university and more than a college. We offer many more options to our students than any single college or university can. We want to build pride in UHI because being part of it means we are all much more than we are individually. Spanning some of the most stunning areas of Scotland, we are shaped by extraordinary landscapes and the seas that surround us. You will find us among the mountains and forests and on islands. In historic towns and cities, hi-tech research parks, and state-of-the art learning environments. We bring together our collective expertise, uniting more than 30,000 students through our sense of place and purpose. More than most, we stand for diversity and opportunity. We offer more choice, more courses and more ways to learn. Our students can study at one of our campuses, world-class research centres, local learning centres, or online from wherever they want or need to be. We offer an outstanding experience, unlike anywhere else. UHI, where learning means more.

Agus sinn a’ toirt a-steach cuid de na sgìrean as iongantaiche ann an Alba, tha sinn air ar cumadh le cruthan-tìre air leth agus na cuantan a tha timcheall oirnn. Tha an t-àite anns am bi sinn ag ionnsachadh mar phàirt de na shocraicheas cò sinn. Gheibh sibh sinn am measg nam beanntan is nan coilltean agus air eileanan. Ann am bailtean eachdraidheil, pàircean rannsachaidh àrd-theicneòlais, agus àrainneachdan ionnsachaidh ùr-nodha. Faodaidh na h-oileanaich againn a bhith ag ionnsachadh aig aon de ar n-àrainnean, ar n-ionadan rannsachaidh, a tha am measg na feadhna as fheàrr san t-saoghal, no ar n-ionadan ionnsachaidh ionadail, no air-loidhne o àite sam bith a rèir mar a thogras iad no mar a dh’fheumas iad. 🧵✨ Celebrating our local heritage and creative skills!

As part of Developing the Young Workforce Outer Hebrides Heritage Careers Week, pupils at The Nicolson Institute/Àrd-sgoil MhicNeacail had the opportunity to create their own Harris Tweed bags in a fantastic workshop delivered by our Fashion Lecturer Sallie Avis.

It was a brilliant opportunity to learn more about the craftmanship behind one of our most iconic local industries and discover the courses and skills available right here at UHI NWH Stornoway.

We were delighted to welcome Davy Thomson from White Ribbon Scotland to the college this week, where he spoke with our Construction, Engineering and Maritime students about the important work of the White Ribbon campaign.

The campaign began in Scotland in 2010, with a focus on challenging men’s violence against women and promoting a culture of respect, equality and positive change.

Davy shared the history of the campaign which began in Canada in 1991 and has since grown into a worldwide movement, with campaigns taking place in countries including Namibia, Pakistan and Australia.

As our students prepare for careers in construction, engineering and maritime industries, understanding the importance of respect and equality is essential. By helping to create safe, inclusive and resoectful workplaces, they can play a positive role in building industries and communities where violence against women is never accepted or normalised.

A big thank you to Davy Thomson and White Ribbon Scotland for taking the time to visit our students and for helping us continue these important conversations. 🤍

We have been proud to support two recent events with Developing the Young Workforce Outer Hebrides and The Nicolson Institute/Àrd-sgoil MhicNeacail.

🌊 S4-S6 pupils with an interest in Aquaculture got the chance to visit Mowi Scotland's Remote Operations Centre (ROC) in Stornoway for an engaging and informative open day, providing an insight into the wide range of careers, technology and operations involved in modern aquaculture. We are proud to support local industries and were glad to be able to help inform young people of the pathways available to them within their community.

🌊 S2 pupils got the chance to dive into the world of maritime careers this week at a Maritime Pathways event. From apprenticeships and training routes to careers in ports, engineering, technology and environmental sustainability, the event highlighted the many pathways within maritime industries.

We are proud to partner with local industries to help inspire the next generation by showcasing the opportunities available here in the Outer Hebrides.
