Our new Masters programme - https://www.uhi.ac.uk/en/courses/msc-sustainability-and-rural-regeneration/ - is designed for participants better wishing to understand the theory, policy and practice that can make a real difference towards attaining sustainability in rural regions.

Planning Aid Scotland are helping to run community engagement sessions as part of creating a Local Place Plan for NAIRN. They are running 5 community engagement sessions in total and are looking for volunteers to help facilitate small group conversations and take notes of what everyone is saying. The topics of conversation at each table will be based around the six qualities of successful places from NPF4.

The dates and times of the engagements will be:
9th May 4.30-9pm
10th May 8.30am - 1pm
15th May 4.30-9pm
16th May 8.30am - 12.30pm
16th May 4.30-9pm
All of the sessions will take place in NAIRN with exact venues TBC.

If you are looking to update your skills in the area of sustainability, UHI are currently offering a limited number of FREE places on some of our modules, including an online module that our department run, called Understanding Sustainable Development.

Starting on Monday 29th January and running over 12 weeks, it will explore what sustainable development means, and look at climate change, biodiversity loss, degrowth, carbon colonialism, wellbeing economies, just transition, and many other topical issues.

You will be guided through weekly online content and lots of interesting videos and podcasts, as well as having access to UHI’s online academic library, all of which you can explore at a time that suits you during each week (Reading list available here: https://rl.talis.com/3/uhi/lists/9B0A33DE-7D11-D86F-C925-D703451A76F0.html?lang=en )

If you successfully complete the two assessments (a policy brief/explainer on a topic of your choice and a reflection on Discussions), you will be awarded a certificate in Understanding Sustainable Development worth 20 credits at SCQF Level 7.

This is a really good introduction to sustainable development and very timely given the Scottish Government’s current consultation on a Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill, which may place further requirements on public bodies to ensure sustainable development is at the heart of all decision-making.
