HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY!!!

Today we recognise all the hard work that our nursing colleagues and our student nurses put in to making the NHS better and help those who require them in their hour of need!!

SJA is a great way for those who are student HCPs and want some more experience working at events or for those who just want to volunteer for the greater good!!

Our District Student Volunteering Lead Michaela Stewart attended the National SJA Student Volunteering meeting yesterday in Coventry. The meeting looked at the Great work the organisation is doing and looking at strategies to improve the student volunteering process.

Yesterday our society president and unit events lead Ronan, attended Newcastle first aid society's meeting were they were taking part in manual handling and gating familiar with equipment on the SJA ambulances. Watch this space as meetings like this are in the pipeline for UoS First Aiders. Sunderland Students' Union Newcastle First Aid Society.

Exciting Times Ahead!!! We have been working hard behind the scenes to get an operational St John Ambulance up and running at Sunderland University. We are pleased to announce that it is OFFICIAL. And it couldn't have happened at a better time... Watch this space and stay tuned for student volunteering week. Hi everyone, please have a look at the link for those wishing to be operational within St John. Volunteering with us gives you loads of opportunities to be part of our events team, thay attend concerts, sports events, the Great North Run, London Marathon and the Durham Miners Gala and more!. You could work as a 2 person unit or be part of a multi-disciplinary team at a treament centre or first aid post. Feel free to contact the team if you need further information.

As we see the start to a new year and new semester we first aiders thought that now is as a good a time as any to revisit some first aid skills.

We will start with the primary survey. When coming across a casualty it always important to remember DR'sABC.

Thank you to everyone who has donated money towards the food hampers. We have raised over £500 so far which will go a long way. We will be assembling the hampers in the coming week ready to deliver them to those in need of them. Thanks again to all involved and those who donated UoS 💚
