Today we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Did you know that over 85% of the 2nd year students are girls, and over 90% in 3rd year?

The sciences are heavily dominated by men, however, the cometic and personal care industry has one of the highest proportions of female workers compared to other science-based industries.

Women and young girls should be encouraged to study the sciences, especially chemistry and physics.

If you’re a women/girl in science, today is for you! Keep on going!

✨ Sunderland Virtual Christmas Light Switch On - TONIGHT ✨

Join Sun FM favourite Simon Grundy and the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor David Snowdon online to mark the start of Christmas in Sunderland and begin the festive celebrations from 6.30pm. ☃

The launch will also include music, a special message from Sunderland Empire's Snow White pantomime stars and an extra special message from Santa Claus himself! Christmas trees and lighting across the city will be illuminated following a countdown from the Mayor. 🎅🎄
