Why data is vital for the industry to achieve net-zero
Achieving net-zero carbon emissions has become a top priority for construction companies.
As part of a UK government strategy set out last year, all new buildings will be required to operate at net-zero by 2030 – meaning the amount of carbon emissions associated with a building’s usage and construction stages must equal zero or negative.
Understanding the carbon emissions from a specific material or product involves continuous measurement throughout its lifecycle. This measurement needs to start from the point of specification for building materials through their design, purchasing, manufacturing, distribution and installation. The assessment then needs to continue through to maintenance, repair, reuse and, finally, recycling of those materials.

Pam mae data’n hanfodol i'r diwydiant gyflawni sero-net
Mae allyriadau carbon sero-net sy'n codi wedi dod yn brif flaenoriaeth i gwmnïau adeiladu.
Yn rhan o strategaeth llywodraeth y DU a nodwyd y llynedd, bydd gofyn i bob adeilad newydd weithredu ar sero-net erbyn 2030 – sy'n golygu bod rhaid i faint o allyriadau carbon sy'n gysylltiedig â chamau defnyddio ac adeiladu adeilad fod yn sero neu’n negyddol.
Mae deall yr allyriadau carbon o ddeunydd neu gynnyrch penodol yn golygu mesur parhaus drwy gydol ei gylch oes. Mae angen i'r mesur hwn ddechrau o'r pwynt manyleb ar gyfer deunyddiau adeiladu drwy eu dylunio, eu prynu, eu gweithgynhyrchu, eu dosbarthu a'u gosod. Yna, mae angen i'r asesiad barhau i gynnal a chadw, atgyweirio, ailddefnyddio ac, yn olaf, ailgylchu'r deunyddiau hynny.
