Today we are pleased to host the UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge, Social, Behavioral and Design Research workshop.

Researchers from Swansea University and as far as Stirling have come together to discuss, innovate and collaborate. They'll spend the day working together and receiving a tour of the Awen and its world-class infrastructure for ageing research.

The Morgan Advanced Studies Institute (MASI)and the AWEN Institute at Swansea University are hosting an all-Wales sandpit event on bilingualism and dementia resilience. We aim to bring together transdisciplinary expertise and experience from across Wales and beyond and engage with stakeholders in the Welsh language, bilingualism, dementia research and dementia care.

Mae Sefydliad Astudiaethau Uwch Morgan (MASI) a Sefydliad AWEN, Prifysgol Abertawe, yn cynnal gweithdy Gymru-gyfan ar ddwyieithrwydd a gwytnwch dementia. Ein nod yw cyfuno arbenigedd trawddisgyblaethol gyda phrofiadau amrywiol dros Gymru a thu hwnt a gweithio gyda rhanddeiliaid sydd yn ymwneud â’r Gymraeg, dwyieithrwydd ac ymchwil ar ddementia neu ofal dementia.

In support of National Women's Day, we're celebrating the incredible women who are associated with the Awen Institute.

The Institute is led by Director Andrea Tales and has multiple women in senior roles. This week we'll share information about researchers, academics and core staff who are at the forefront of ageing research and innovation.

The Awen Institute brings together leading researchers with older people and the creative industries to co-produce products, services and environments for an increasingly ageing population. Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, the institute is being led by Swansea University in partnership with the University of South Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

We’re pleased to announce that Joe Ryan, the director or VRGO Chair, is attending and will be allowing attendees to try the world’s first health tracker for the workplace, the fyt, a complete system for workplace wellness.

The science behind fyt takes a holistic approach recommended by occupational health specialists. Using a combination of posture goals, regular stretching, and vibration alerts to break sedentary sitting, the user improves how they feel and think throughout the working week.

We hope you all had a restful festive period. We had a busy finish to December; we were pleased to be visited by Jo Stevens before we closed for Christmas.

Jo is currently serving as Shadow Secretary of the state for Wales and has been since 2021. It was a pleasure to welcome her to the Awen Institute to discuss ageing research and the importance of ageing better and for longer.

Our Living Lab and VR Garden are unique to Wales, and it was wonderful to see Jo take a genuine interest in ageing research and the importance of collaboration across industries.

Gobeithiwn eich bod oll wedi cael cyfnod braf dros y Nadolig. Cawsom ddiweddglo prysur i fis Rhagfyr; roeddem yn falch o gael ymweliad gan Jo Stevens cyn i ni gau ar gyfer y Nadolig.

Ers 2021, mae Jo wedi bod yn gwasanaethu fel Ysgrifennydd Gwladol Cysgodol Cymru. Pleser oedd ei chroesawu i Sefydliad Awen i drafod ymchwil heneiddio a phwysigrwydd heneiddio’n well ac am gyfnod hirach.
