About the Role
As a Tree Fruit Technician, you’ll play a key part in working closely with our growers, helping to support the production of the crops and being a member of our new variety development team. You’ll work hands-on with growers and colleagues to support the sales of UK apples and pears to a range of UK customers. If you’re curious about crop production, quality assessments, post-harvest processes, and love working both in the field and with data, you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
• Collaborate & Innovate: Be part of a passionate team testing new varieties at our UK sites. You’ll assess, report, and recommend improvements that drive our success.
• Shape the Future: Get involved in our industry-leading breeding programme, helping to select and advance standout varieties through rigorous testing.
• Harvest Insights: Work closely with growers during harvest, providing expert advice on fruit maturity and picking times.
• See the World: Enjoy opportunities to travel and evaluate new varieties being developed globally.
• Build for Success: Help develop technical blueprints for new pipeline varieties and support R&D projects that keep us ahead of the curve.
• Support Growers: Assist with store monitoring, reporting, and procurement, and help manage grower licenses and planting plans.
• Grow your Knowledge and Expertise: The fresh produce industry has so much to offer as a career path. It’s a fast moving, exciting industry with an important function in UK food system. You will develop a range of skills that will support your career development and open up opportunities depending on your preferred career pathway.
What You’ll Bring
• A background in biological sciences is preferred but not essential.
• GCSE grade C+ in Maths and English and preferably one core science based subject.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical, hands-on approach.
• A self-starter and a methodical mindset and the ability to deliver results on time.
• Confidence using spreadsheets and presentation tools.
• Flexibility to work both in the office and on farms during key seasons and to deliver the extra mile when required.
• A collaborative spirit, great interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude toward learning. Full training will be provided through working closely with our expert team.
• Applicants will need a full UK driving license and their own vehicle for travel.
