This summer, our staff, students and local community members became ‘human beavers’ in an exciting hands-on project with our SPF Future is Green Project in collaboration with The Grower Ltd .
The groups worked together to build a series of ‘trickle dams’ starting at the source of Mingoose stream that eventually meets the sea at Chapel Porth. The goal was a simple but powerful one: to slow the flow of water right from its starting point, allowing it to seep gradually into the landscape.
Now, after the recent heavy rains, we can see these dams working in all their glory. It’s fantastic to see them doing exactly what they were designed to do: holding back the water, collecting sediment and refilling the historic ponds that were uncovered in the early stages of the project.
It’s a brilliant demonstration of how natural processes can be gently nudged to help restore our local environment. 🍃
