I've just written an article on my website about drones in video production.

From local projects in Nottingham to big video production jobs around the world, everyone asks to bring out the drone.

From an outside perspective, the idea of your videographer flying a cool gadget seems super worth the money! On the other hand, your audience doesn't always need to spend ten seconds looking at your building from a birds eye perspective when they're watching to check out your product or service (and retention is key to keep them watching).

There are certain businesses that definitely benefit from a drone perspective however! Let's explore that.

It's been a couple of years now since a documentary of mine was featured on BBC news!

I worked with the Pythian Club in Nottingham (a great charity) to create a documentary about knife crime and drill music for the CPS.

The greatest thing is, the CPS didn't ask for a documentary. The Pythian Club knew that the knife crime stories wouldn't hit home on paper. Young people who have benefited from a creative life of music production wouldn't be able to tell their story too.

A report wouldn't have earned us news coverage either, it wouldn't have changed the law, it wouldn't have been remembered.

Whether it's a funding application or absolutely anything, a bespoke documentary is a brilliant way to tell stories and hit home.

I absolutely love making them!

A lot of fun filming this little XIX Vodka event in Leeds.
Comedy in a sandwich shop... with Isaac HP!

The problem with filming next to comedians is that they end up using you in your set. If you're filming next to comedians on stage, prepare for them to make fun of you and go with it. Isaac was super nice and happy to take some pictures with the Vodka bottles also - which I'll share at some point!

There's lots of great reasons people like the Sidemen put on a small comedy event for their Vodka and hire a videographer to gather footage:

- Try out new flavours & cocktails (lots of feedback!)
- Promote the collaboration with Isaac on social media
- Test out an event formula they can pitch to venues

I live in Nottingham now, but when I first moved to London (for film school) I knew absolutely no one. Introducing yourself is hard sometimes.

Two years into my London journey, I plucked up the courage to talk to a photographer who (four months after meeting) needed a videographer to help him capture video content at an event he was shooting.

I didn't know that event was Wembley Stadium until the night before - and that I'd have an all access pass. The whole day was a blur, I just remember the press lounge and pitch side. It was my first 'proper' job as a freelance videographer.

(The attached picture is a still of a slo-mo shot I took on the shoot!)

Since then I've worked for a marketing agency in London creating all sorts of videos, moved back home up to Nottingham and started up for myself as a freelancer.

It's been a bumpy ride so far but I've had the pleasure of working for big names like Nottingham Forest, The CPS and Bic!

I guess... Talk to everyone you want to talk to! I'd be nowhere if I hadn't.

“We have a video on our website homepage, but it’s quite old! We need a new one that’s less corporate and showcases our new facilities.”

This project was a fun one, turning what could have been a standard corporate video into a fun-to-watch edit with comedic elements and lots of colour!

Over 1,000 locals have watched this video right until the end – in the first year of embedding onto the website. That's pretty good for a local business..

It also loops silently in their reception area on a TV with subtitles to read. If you need any promotional video work, you know who to message!
