In case the photos weren’t enough… here’s ALT Arcade in action 🎮

This project pushed students to think beyond individual disciplines and build complete interactive experiences using lighting, sound, video and creative technology together in real time.

Another big thank you to all our industry partners, especially Isadora for supporting ALT Arcade and helping make ambitious creative projects like this possible.

Last week, our students transformed campus into a fully interactive arcade and the competition was fierce 🎮⚡

Using projection mapping, LED screens, custom-built controllers and awesome visuals, they created a high-energy gaming experience that had staff and students queuing up to claim the top spot on the leaderboard.

The ALT Arcade project challenges students to bring together sound, lighting, video and interactive technology into one seamless experience. Using Isadora as the backbone, students worked across a complex network of connected devices to design, build and run their arcade concepts from the ground up.

Projects like this are only possible thanks to the continued support of our industry partners. A huge thank you to Isadora for supplying licences and supporting creative learning at ALT, as without this, the project wouldn't have been possible.

Across the project, students also worked with:

• Green Hippo media servers for video playback

• Blender and Adobe Creative Cloud for asset creation

• Epson projectors

• ROE Visual LED wall

• NovaStar processing

• CHAUVET Professional lighting fixtures

• ELATION DMX nodes

• Arduino circuit boards

• KV2 Audio systems

• Brompton Technology processing

• h2rGear schematic software

Every game showcased the creativity, collaboration and technical problem-solving our students develop at the Academy of Live Technology.

One standout favourite? The ALT-inspired flight case game - genuinely addictive. 👀

Assessments… but make it live 🔥

Our students brought in real bands (including Metalcore outfit Theseus) and built a full-scale live show from scratch - lighting, sound, visuals, the lot.

Everything you see? Run live.

Yeah, it’s fun… but behind the scenes it takes serious skill, teamwork and hours of prep to make it look effortless.

Not into a “normal” office job?
Good. This isn’t a normal classroom.

Postgraduate Spotlight 🎓

Corrie Ashton - Order Born of Chaos
MA Live Event Design

Created as part of her Major Project, Order Born of Chaos is an immersive, hand-drawn stop motion animation installation exploring the origins of the universe. Blending inspiration from Greek mythology with the Big Bang theory, Corrie set out to visualise the unknowable beginnings of everything, creating an abstract interpretation of what came before the world we recognise today.

The piece featured 580 individually drawn frames, forming a constantly shifting visual environment where no two frames are the same. Out of this chaos, a cohesive image gradually emerges.

Designed for a circular projection space, the installation places the viewer at the centre of the experience. By surrounding the audience with moving image, Corrie moves beyond traditional screen-based viewing to create something spatial, embodied, and deeply immersive.

Sound played a vital role in shaping the experience. Collaborating with fellow postgraduate student Charlie Stead, Corrie developed a spatial soundscape. Audio moves dynamically around the room, enhancing immersion and allowing audiences to feel part of the unfolding environment rather than simply observing it.

Technically, the project involved synchronising multiple projectors to create a wraparound visual, alongside producing the animation frame-by-frame using digital tools.

Reflecting on her time studying MA Live Event Design at the Academy of Live Technology, Corrie shared:

“I’ve learnt a lot of new skills whilst studying at ALT and built up my knowledge of what is achievable. I've focused mainly on projection mapping during my course and found it to be something I'm really interested and passionate about. Before I started at ALT, I had no knowledge in this area. I hope to continue learning more about it and hopefully find opportunities within this sector. It’s definitely sparked a new passion."

Our Industry Practices sessions brought KV2 Audio to campus, giving our students a valuable hands-on experience with high-performance sound systems.

After supporting the load-in and setup, students had the opportunity to hear a range of KV2’s small- to medium-scale passive and active systems in action.

Speaking about their ongoing support for ALT, Tom Weldon, UK Sales Manager for KV2 Audio, explained:

“It’s vital that students pursuing careers in professional audio are exposed to a broad range of ideas and technologies. Understanding that alternative approaches often exist - and can, in many cases, deliver better results over certain perceived industry wisdoms.”

A huge thank you to KV2 for delivering such an insightful and engaging session!

What if your degree took you all the way to Austin, Texas… and straight into the heart of SXSW ? 🎤✈️

For a group of ALT students from our UK and US campuses, that’s exactly what happened.

From day one, they stepped into the fast-paced reality of an international showcase festival, managing builds, navigating tight changeovers and supporting live performances across a programme of nearly 60 artists.

This wasn’t work experience from the side lines. This was a hands-on, real-world production.

Hear what our students and staff took away from their SXSW experience:
