🚛 Loading with TRUCKINGBY!

One of the biggest parts of crewing? Loading and unloading the trucks that keep the live industry moving.

From kit and stages to everything in between, trucks transport the gear from venue to venue, festival to festival. No trucks = no show!

To get our students hands-on from day one, our friends at TruckingBY kindly brought one of their trucks along for the day, giving our students the chance to learn the skills, techniques and teamwork needed to load and unload safely and efficiently.

Roadie Olympics 2026! 🏆

The first few weeks at Academy of Live Technology are all about getting our students to grips with the basics. Through our skills bootcamps, they build the essential knowledge and practical skills they need to step onto a crew with confidence. Then comes the Roadie Olympics.

A fun, fiercely competitive series of challenges designed to put those newly learned skills to the test, while bringing everyone together for a bit of friendly rivalry and, inevitably, a fair amount of chaos!

From spotting the issue with a rider and lassoing flight cases, to untangling cables for mic tests and finally… the fast and furious Flight Case Race.

It’s all about putting skills into practice, working as a team and having a lot of fun along the way.

A huge thank you to Amelie Foster for taking the time to speak with our students about life on the road as a touring trucker, while she was on campus with a production.

At ALT, studying at the heart of the industry at Production Park means our students are surrounded by people who are actively working in live events. From picking their brains and hearing real-world experiences to gaining valuable tips and advice, these opportunities give our students an insight into what life in the industry is really like.

ALT students take on Grøn Koncert 🇩🇰

Every year, we team up with the brilliant crew at Grøn Koncert to send our students to Denmark for one of the most unique festival experiences around.

Grøn doesn’t stay in one place. The whole festival packs up and hits the road, travelling to 8 different cities across Denmark, with up to 30,000 people showing up at each one.

Our students are right in the middle of it all, working alongside the production teams and local crew to build it, run it and tear it all back down again before heading off to the next city.

But it’s not all hard work…

There’s getting to experience Danish culture, late nights, new friends and plenty of fun along the way. It’s exactly the kind of experience you can’t get from a classroom.

Swipe through to see what our students got up to 👀

Huge thanks to the Grøn team for making it happen!

As part of our Industry Practices programme, our students had the opportunity to hear from CuePilot about the technologies, workflows, and creative processes that help bring some of the world's biggest live productions and broadcasts to life.

CuePilot's software is used across major live television and entertainment productions to plan, cue, and coordinate complex shows with precision, making them a valuable insight into the world of large-scale production.

A big thanks for Dan from CuePilot for coming to speak with our students.
