Take a look at the size of St Cuthberts Mill’s famous chimney, built in 1897. Although the chimney is no longer in use, it is considered a local landmark, as it can be seen in both Wells and from the Mendip Hills in the UK.

It originally cost £1490 to build, which equates to about £200,000 in today’s money!

There is also a story of the mill owner laying down the first brick, and his sister was hoisted to the top to lay the last.
