Back in the primordial soup that was the beginning of the millennium a bunch of teenage gamers decided to gather at Wincanton Memorial Hall in Somerset with our PC's, piles of network cables, a few switches and a tangle of extension cables. Somerset's bring your own PC (BYOPC) LAN Party was born. From those humble beginnings we hosted several more gaming events with the help of Gigabits and we cal

led ourselves ShinyLorry because, umm, just because. From 2004 we decided to call ourselves ShinyLAN to avoid confusion with transport enthusiasts. At the same time many of the original crew went to university all over the country to pretend to learn about things for a bit while mostly getting drunk or high (with exceptions). Several different lovable reprobates stepped up over the years to help organise the events and LANs continued in Wincanton on our usual family unfriendly dates over Easter, August Bank Holiday and Boxing Day. We've had gamers attend from mainland Europe, others who live close enough to the venue to stumble home for a shower and real bed (shame on them). As the years have gone by our LAN Parties have become much more than just a room full of PC's linked up chasing frags. We are a large group of friends and we welcome like minded people to our laid back interpretation of what a LAN Party should be. We pride ourselves on our reputation as the social LAN.

We are TWO weeks from our next gaming event, there are loads of things to do at a LAN Party - it's not about the games it is about the incredible community of people that come together to play them. Our venue North Wingfield Community Resource Centre is in an excellent location surrounded by convenience shops - one of our favourite take away places is Va Kei Chinese Takeaway, they create the most delicious food and best of all its only a 5 minute walk away from the venue.

Today marks the end of almost 21 years of lan-ing at Wincanton.
Massive thanks to all the attendees & staff that have made our events over those 21 years special for everyone - and helped make ShinyLAN what it is today.

Next time round we will be moving to pastures new (which will probably™️ be at Cerne Abbas), but never rule out returning one day.

Dave, Noodle, Tony & myself all hope you had an enjoyable time this weekend. We hope to get info out about our next event as soon as things are secured.

All that leaves now is to go home and have a 45 minute degrease in the shower.

Well, that was certainly 2 years that happened. Before we get into the meat of this announcement - we hope that all of you are doing alright still and that both you & your families have hopefully traversed the past 2 years without incident.

It's almost getting towards that time of the year again, where everyone begins their triannual pilgrimages to Wincanton in search of a weekend of games, drinks & amusement. We've been pretty lax on the information front so far, but now every crease is ironed and every stamp has been licked (thanks noodle). That means we are now in a position to (formally) announce our next LAN

SL22.1 - Easter LAN 2022
Date: 5:00pm 15th April 2022 - 5:00pm 18th April 2022
Place: Wincanton Memorial Hall, Wincanton, Somerset
Price: £55 (in advance) or £25 per day (on the door)

If you purchased a ticket to one of our previous events that was cancelled, your ticket has been rolled forward to this event & should show on the website, and let you pick a seat for the LAN. If not then please contact one of the staff so we can investigate.

Firstly, we’d like to thank you all for your patience over the last few weeks of uncertainty. A lot of stuff has been going on, and a lot of information has been flying around. Unfortunately, the ongoing situation regarding the Covid-19 outbreak has got worse and now running an event is strongly against the current government guidelines.

Because of this, we’ve decided to cancel the Easter LAN (10-13th April 2020). Information for ticket holders is in the next section.

We sincerely apologise for the late notice. This has been a recent decision and we have moved as quick as possible to finalise everything and inform everyone.

It is our intention to be back for the Summer LAN (28-31st August 2020) as planned, providing the current outbreak is contained by then.

Information for ticket holders
We’ve provided 2 options for ticket holders for this event: Refund or Rollover.

Refund: We will refund the entire cost of your order back to your original payment method. To request a refund, please email '[email protected]' with your order number and state that you’d like a refund.

Rollover: We will convert your tickets to the next event (Summer LAN 28-31st August 2020). To request a rollover, please email '[email protected]' with your order number and state that you’d like a rollover.

We will process your refund/rollover within 48 hours of confirming your request. If you have sent a message but had no confirmation, please message on Discord.

If you have multiple tickets, please let us know how many tickets you want refunded or rolled over (if not all of them).

Finally, as a thank you, we will be organising some online events for the same weekend that Easter LAN would have been. This will be aptly named **ShinyWAN**. Please let know if you’d like a custom LANyard produced and mailed to you free of charge to commemorate this (hopefully) one-time occurance. This offer is only open to Easter LAN ticket holders.

📰 NEWS FROM LAN HQ 📰

We're sure everyone is aware of the current situation regarding Covid-19 in the UK, but we just wanted to provide some reassurance to those who might be wondering.

Currently, there are *no* plans to postpone or cancel the Easter LAN on the 10th April.

We are keeping our eyes on the news though, and the advice given for indoor events, and while we're expecting a ban on large indoor events to happen next week, we imagine that threshold will be larger than our capacity. Obviously, if the situation changes and we are required by law to postpone/cancel the event then we shall evaluate the game plan at that time.

That being said, we can't provide assurance that every attendee is not infectious or following the increased hygeine reccomendations. It may be wise taking extra precautions if you have underlying medical conditions and plan on attending. Alternatively, get in touch with us and we'll see what we can do regarding any tickets purchased.

It shouldn't really need to be said, but if you are exhibiting any of the known symptoms of Covid-19 within the 7 days leading up to the event, then please don't come. Let us know and we'll see what we can do regarding any tickets purchased, and seek guidance from the NHS information page: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Finally, we know how much some of you want this LAN to happen and we will do our best to make sure it goes ahead as planned. Any further updates will be posted on our page or on our Discord server, but if you have any questions then please let us know.
