A tremendous tin time-capsule !

This metal shed was acquired in 1910 by Arthur Bulleid and Harold St George Gray for use as site HQ for their archaeological excavation of Meare Iron Age Lake Village in Somerset

The central part of the hut was a tool and finds store whilst the end rooms acted as an office for each of the two directors

Abandoned in 1956, when investigations ended, the hut was rediscovered in 1982

When opened it was found to still contain digging tools, finds, drawing records and newspapers dating back to 1890

It has now been moved to the excellent Avalon Archaeology and the wood-lined interior has been recreated as it was in the 1950s

We very much aspire to this level of on-site comfort 😍

If you haven't been to HAM HILL Country park Somerset, then you really should 😍

An excellent visitor centre (with cafe), extensive walks, a pub and the huge earthen ramparts of Britain's largest Iron Age hillfort with extensive views out across the Somerset Levels

Also great new information boards which mention the Durotriges a lot 😀
