Congratulations to Dr Stephanie King on the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics. The title of Dr King's thesis is 'Classroom Action Research (CAR): An investigation into English language teachers' perceptions, practices, and reflections after engaging in CAR’, and she was supervised by Dr Tracey Costley.

Congratulations to Dr Alaa Mohammed S Alqarni on the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics. The title of Dr Alqarni’s thesis is 'Dialect Contact and koineisation in Riyadh:A Study on the Dialect of Alqarni Tribe’, and she was supervised by Professor Enam Al-Wer.

UPDATE ON STRUCTURAL CHANGE

In spite of significant changes to staff and structure, we will continue to offer all courses to current Language and Linguistics students.

This includes all 5 modern languages, as well as English, translation and linguistics. Current undergraduate students will progress to the next level of their major language until every student has the opportunity to complete their degree.

Spanish and French will continue to be offered to new students. Graduate level Translation and Interpreting courses will remain open for new students, but will no longer be language‑specific. There will be no changes to courses for current students.

The University of Essex has proposed to discontinue undergraduate provision in Italian, Portuguese and German, all Chinese Translation & Interpreting PGT programmes, and the Languages for All programme as part of large-scale restructuring.
