New College Worcester is a national residential School and College for young people aged 11 - 19 who are blind or partially sighted. Every student at NCW has an individually tailored programme in three key areas: academic achievement, independent living skills and extracurricular activities. We accept students who are funded via their own local authority or independently funded as well as students

from overseas. Out students are inspirational, talented and wonderfully resilient young people and we hope you enjoy sharing their NCW journey via these pages.

Once part of the NCW community – always part of the NCW community 🧡

Huge congratulations to former students Toby and Corey on achieving their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and celebrating at Buckingham Palace! 👑

This is an incredible achievement!

Their dad shared:
“What once felt impossible became achievable – proof that with the right support, true inclusion is possible.”

What an inspiring achievement. They started their DofE journey here at NCW and we are bursting with pride! 💫👏

1pm – our students are on their way home for half term! ☀️🍦

To celebrate the end of term (and the very welcome sunshine!), the Wellbeing Team treated students and staff to a selection of ice lollies this morning! 😄

Sixth Form stars Jo and Toby, along with Mr Stephens, headed out on an all-important ice lolly mission, while Ms Hayward and Mrs Denman made sure everyone got a treat – smiles all round!

Wishing everyone a wonderful half term break 💛

Image Description: A series of images showing staff and students gathered in indoor corridors and classrooms collecting ice lollies from a trolley filled with colourful frozen treats. Staff stand beside the trolley handing out lollies, while students hold ice lollies and chat nearby. Boxes of ice lollies and bags of supplies are visible on and beneath the trolley, with school hallways, noticeboards, and windows in the background.

Budding law enthusiast Faith heads to court! ⚖️

Student Faith recently attended an educational visit to Worcester Crown Court, where she had the opportunity to learn more about the legal system firsthand.

As part of the experience, Faith took part in a structured session which included hearing from a judge and asking questions about the judicial process. During the visit, she also had the exciting opportunity to meet the new High Sheriff of Worcestershire.

A fantastic experience for an aspiring legal mind 👏

Students head down to the farm! 🐄🌱

Snuggles with chickens and baby lambs, hands-on learning and plenty of fresh air – what’s not to love? 💛

Our students have been building confidence, learning new skills and making the most of their weekly visits to Bonterre Farm.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

At NCW, accessibility is at the heart of everything we do — but it means something different to everyone.

Let’s start a conversation…

👉 What does accessibility mean to you?

Meet Tilly! 🐾

We’re so proud to share that Tilly, our much-loved school dog, has officially qualified as a therapy dog at New College Worcester!

It’s been a busy year for our Year 7 students in Humanities! 📚

They’ve been exploring our historic city, getting to know Worcester and the local area — from ancient archives and cathedrals to local museums and everything in between.

They even stepped back in time by dressing up as a monk, bringing history to life in a fun and memorable way! 👏

Image 2: A student sits at a table in front of a large open historical book, examining the printed pages with decorative lettering. Bookshelves filled with bound volumes line the background, while an adult’s hands are
visible nearby.
Image 3: Two students stand outdoors at a stone spring with water flowing from a metal pipe. Each student holds a mobility cane and extends a hand toward the running water. The setting includes a stone wall, greenery, and a small sign beside the spring.

🎧 We’re featured on BBC Radio 4’s In Touch!

This episode explores the proposed SEND reforms and what they could mean for blind and vision impaired children — including the vital role specialist schools play.

We’re proud that Victoria Ward, Head of VI Education at New College Worcester, joins the discussion alongside Dr Rachel Hewett from VICTAR.

The programme is presented by Peter White, a former NCW student, making this a particularly special feature for our community.

We discuss concerns about the SEND reforms and the recent RNIB Newsagent outage.

We take cake very seriously at NCW… very seriously. 🎂

In fact, we think it’s just as important to know how to bake a cake as it is to eat one – because you never know when a friend at uni or a family member might have a birthday… and supermarket cake just won’t cut it!

Sixth Form students Jack and Faith did a fantastic job baking these delicious creations (and somehow resisted eating them all first 👀). 👏

Image description: Two homemade sponge cakes displayed on colourful plates on a kitchen counter. The first cake sits on a bright purple tray and is topped with thick white icing that drips down the sides, finished with small pink heart-shaped sprinkles. The second cake is on a blue plate and has a layer of icing with a mix of pink and yellow sprinkles scattered across the top. Both cakes are slightly uneven in shape, with a rustic, homemade appearance and a few crumbs visible around them.
