Spring sunshine and protein purification in the lab today! β˜€οΈπŸ§ͺ We’re using Cibacron Blue affinity chromatography to isolate Lactate Dehydrogenase, an enzyme that binds the dye thanks to its affinity for NAD⁺ β€” a perfect mix of colour, chemistry, and discovery. πŸ’™πŸ”¬

πŸŽ“ Huge congratulations to Dr Andrea Tapia-Arenas from the School of Science and the Environment, who graduated today!

Andrea’s PhD, β€œEvaluating Remote Sensing Technology to Assess Bumblebee Habitat Quality in Open Semi-Natural Grasslands,” combined cutting-edge drone technology with boots-on-the-ground ecology. She flew drones over grasslands, carried out detailed habitat and bumblebee surveys, and crunched an impressive amount of data to build models that classify flower coverage directly from drone imagery.

Originally from Costa Rica, Andrea has brought international perspective, dedication, and innovation to her research β€” helping us better understand and protect vital pollinator habitats. 🐝🌼

We’re delighted that Andrea is continuing this work with the , where she is developing further research in this area. She has also been recruited as an Associate Lecturer in Computing here at the University of Worcester β€” a fantastic example of interdisciplinary impact in action.

We’re incredibly proud of everything she has achieved. Congratulations, Dr Tapia-Arenas! 🌟

Our first-year Biological Diversity students had an unforgettable visit to Crocodiles of the World in Oxfordshire today! 🌏

Highlights included watching the Nile crocodiles being fed, appreciating the size of Albert the American Alligator, and seeing the juvenile Siamese Crocodiles, a critically endangered species facing severe threats in the wild. 🐊

We had an opportunity to watch and learn about 19 of the world's 26 crocodilian species, gaining a deeper understanding of biodiversity, conservation challenges and the remarkable adaptations of these animals! πŸ’š

Tracey is our hero.

This month's unsung hero: Tracey Richards 🌟

Whether she’s setting up microscopes in the lab or supporting students out in the field, Tracey has been a vital part of Worcester’s School of Science since 1989 πŸ§ͺ🌿

Her dedication goes far beyond the classroom. Loved by students for her pony, Sassy, Tracey even welcomes them onto her yard to study animal behaviour up close 🐴

Thank you, Tracey, for your unwavering support, your passion for science, and the incredible care you show in enriching the student experience πŸ™Œ

The Biochemists were back in the lab today. Our final year Biochemistry students were studying how our cells regulate energy production. 🦠 ⚑Their data clearly showed positive and negative feedback in action. Well done everyone. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

We are very pleased that Jayden joined us. He is an asset to the course.

Jayden joined us through Clearing and found more than just a place on a course. He found a university that truly cared πŸ’™

He said, β€˜When I phoned up, they asked me my name, first of all, and then kept calling me by my name... it felt like they saw me as an actual person, not another number.’ πŸ’¬

Now thriving as a student on our Biomedical Science BSc, Jayden’s story shows how Clearing can be the start of something amazing πŸ“ž

From Clearing to a starting a career in Medicine! 🩺

Sophie joined us through Clearing to study Biomedical Science and now, she’s a student studying Medicine at our Three Counties Medical School! 🌟

Her journey is a brilliant example of where Clearing can lead 🀝

Did you apply through Clearing? We’d love to hear your story. Share it in the comments! πŸ’¬
