🎞️🏆 Awards acclaim for Rat Trap!

Congratulations to the whole team behind Rat Trap, a Masters film created by Luke Ely, Helen Levesley and Mia Scudds, which has hit a winning streak of awards recognition.

The film recently won Best UK Horror Film at the International Student Film & Screenwriting Festival, as well as being awarded Best Student Film at Glowflare Short Film Festival earlier this year. The acclaim doesn’t end there, with the film reaching the top 3 shortlist for Best Horror at Buntingford Shorts Festival this year amongst 1800+ submissions, calling the film “compelling and thoughtfully crafted” with “a clear voice behind the camera”.

🎞️🏆 Getting international awards recognition for your feature screenplay!

Congratulations to Matt Zullo, a Postgraduate Researcher in Screenwriting at York who won Best War Screenplay and Best Student Screenplay at the New York International Film Awards earlier this year!

Matt’s feature-length screenplay “The On-the-Roof Gang” is a historical WWII drama following the declassified true story of US radiomen intercepting signals warning of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Not only did Matt receive these two incredibly prestigious awards, but the screenplay was also a finalist in two further categories - Best Historical Screenplay and Best First-Time Screenwriter.

📽️🎓 A film-worthy reunion ten years in the making!

Last month was a particularly special one in the department, as a reunion was held with Film and Television Production alumni who graduated in 2016 to celebrate their 10th anniversary since leaving York!

Paul Ryan, senior lecturer for the Film and Television Production degree, said “It was such a wholesome event full of happy tears and hugs. They are all doing so well as colourists, producers, heads of creative and technical departments, and marketing managers, amongst many others, and they were looking back at their time at York with such joy. It is a reminder that although you may face challenges at uni, when you look back it is the good times that you will remember, so make more of those memories you can cherish.”

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and joined us for this wonderful event!
