We are proud to mark Black History Month every October, but our commitment to celebrating Black excellence and confronting racism is not limited to one month; it is a year-round mission.

This year's theme, Honouring our communities, invites us to recognise the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and sustain Black life across the United Kingdom.

So far this month, we invited staff and students to join our BAME Staff Network and Nigerian Students Society for a celebratory event. Dr Lewis Berisford delivered an incredible lecture, 'Black Theology and the Future of Human Flourishing: Beyond Diversity Toward Collective Transformation and Coherence'. We discovered the remarkable story of Charles Ignatius Sancho, an eighteenth-century Black British writer, composer and shopkeeper.
