Based on the resolution of the People’s Commissariat on Education of 8 March 1922, the Art Academy of Georgia was founded. Initially, four faculties were established, those of painting, sculpture, graphic arts and architecture. In 1922 Mose Toidze founded a specialized art school providing training to the young people wishing to enter the Academy. The Chair of Art History and Theory was founded in
1960 at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, under leadership of Leo Rcheulishvili. In 1960s the Sectors of restoration were existing at the Faculties of Fine Arts and Architecture. In the ongoing reformation process at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, by initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sports of Georgia, there was established the Faculty of Restoration in October, 2004, but in March, 2005, the directions of Restoration, Art History and Theory had united. Faculty of Restoration, Art History and Theory includes three study-scientific directions:
