Day 1 Recap

The 2026 Medical Innovation Expo began with an immersive field experience at Ga East Municipal Hospital and GAEC Hospital.
Participants had the opportunity to engage with real healthcare environments, observe clinical and operational practices, and gain valuable insights into the realities of healthcare delivery.

These experiences bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, giving students a deeper understanding of the healthcare ecosystem.

And what a meaningful way to start Medical Innovation Expo ’26.

Sometimes, the path changes. But that doesn’t mean your dreams have to.
Benedict Amoako'22 came to Academic City hoping to study Computer Science. His journey took an unexpected turn, leading him into engineering.
Instead of seeing the change as the end of his plans, he embraced the challenge, became part of Academic City’s pioneering cohort and discovered a passion for robotics.

Today, Benedict is a Systems Integration & Controls Manager at Fortress Asset Integrity Solutions. His story is a reminder to anyone facing an unexpected change in their academic journey:

A different path can still lead to a meaningful destination. Keep going. Keep learning. Keep building.

If you’re currently figuring out your next step, let Benedict’s story be your reminder that one unexpected turn does not define your future, admissions are still open. https://acity.edu.gh/start-your-application/ -online

Don’t give up on the journey. Apply today.

On Wednesday, our Biomedical Engineering Department hosted a hands-on training session in partnership with Cassona Global Imaging and Mindray Global.

Participants explored modern ultrasound technology through practical demonstrations of the Mindray Z50 Ultrasound System, while engaging with professionals in the medical imaging field.
It was a valuable opportunity to take learning beyond theory, gain exposure to current industry technology, and better understand the role of medical imaging in modern healthcare.

This is the kind of industry engagement that turns classroom knowledge into practical experience.

Take a look at some moments from the session and get ready for more innovation at Medical Innovation Expo 2026. Don’t be left out register now: https://acity.edu.gh/event_acity/medical-innovation-expo-2026/

Academic City University and the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH)paid a courtesy call on former Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to present our cybersecurity white paper, Securing Trust in Ghana’s Digital Future: Accountability, Awareness and Action.

The white paper examines the challenges confronting Ghana’s evolving digital ecosystem and puts forward practical recommendations around digital accountability, public awareness, cybersecurity education, stronger enforcement and coordinated action.

This engagement reflects our commitment to ensuring that research does not remain within academic spaces, but contributes meaningfully to conversations that shape Ghana’s digital future.

Building a secure and trusted digital Ghana requires knowledge, collaboration and action.

Too often, great health innovations remain stuck between a brilliant concept and a solution that reaches the people who need it.

That’s where the right knowledge, tools and guidance make the difference.

At Medical Innovation Expo 2026, our expert-led workshops will tackle the real challenges innovators face, from prototyping and pitching to commercialisation, regulatory readiness and designing for low-resource settings.

The problem? Great ideas don’t always make it to impact.

The solution? Learn how to build, validate, communicate and move your innovation forward.

📍Academic City University, Accra | 23 September, 2026.

Bring the idea. Leave with a clearer path to impact.

Great ideas can transform healthcare, but only when they move beyond the lab and into the hands of the people who need them.

At the Medical Innovation Expo 2026, we’re bringing together three remarkable voices who understand what it takes to turn bold health innovations into solutions that create real-world impact.

Join us for an insightful panel discussion featuring:

1. Dr. Derrick Akpalu, PhD, MSCR, Co-Founder & CEO, Revna Biosciences
2. Dr. Abena Engmann, Founder, StradMed Innovations
3. Ato Ulzen-Appiah, Director, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Ecosystem, Academic City University

Theme: Bridging the Commercialisation Gap in Health Innovation

The conversation will explore the critical journey from innovation → commercialisation → impact, and how we can build stronger pathways for locally developed healthcare solutions.

24 September 2026
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
