What we provide:
- Expert clinical assessment regarding current difficulties
- Brief individual counselling for a wide range of problems, including academic difficulties, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, sexual identity issues, relationships and life transitions.
- Crisis intervention (assessment and intervention regarding suicidal and/or other harmful behaviours)
- Career counseling (assess
ment and support in choosing appropriate life paths)
- Group work: psychoeducational groups on topics such as stress management, communication skills, interpersonal relationships etc
- Advisory/referral work: providing information and helping our clients to find appropriate support services in the community (in cases where the needs cannot be met at the Counseling Center).
- Awareness Events: inviting professionals to give talks and/or organizing psychology-related events on a wide range of topics
Who is eligible? The following groups are eligible for the clinical services outlined above:
Students: All currently enrolled full-time, part-time, graduate, undergraduate students are eligible for counselling and health services. Upon graduation, all HAU alumni are eligible for up to 6 counselling sessions to assist them in their life-transitions after graduating or to plan their referral to an appropriate treatment provider or service in the case of longer-term needs. Faculty and staff: All current HAUniv employees (full time, part-time, adjunct) are eligible for UCC services. Eligible Staff and Student Partners/Families: might be offered a limited number of joint therapy sessions with their partner or family members only in cases when it is deemed therapeutically helpful for the client and with their explicit consent.
