International MSc Molecular Biomedicine, Athens - Greece The International MSc in Molecular Biomedicine of the University of Athens & BSRC "Alexander Fleming"

The International MSc in Molecular Biomedicine is an intensive 24-month, full-time and English taught Master's Degree Program (course credits: 120 ECTS) to train the next generation of Biomedical Researchers & Innovators in Academia, Industrial R&D and Entrepreneurship. Operated by the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Biomedical Sciences Research Center BS

RC "Alexander Fleming", the MSc in Molecular Biomedicine aims to place students in the forefront of modern biomedical research and to lay the foundation for the development of innovation & entrepreneurship in the field of biomedicine and biotechnology.

*Through an intensive theoretical course program (1st Semester) offered by top Greek and International researchers, students will learn how to form and test hypotheses, get familiarized with past and current knowledge in the field, address biological questions using state-of-the-art methodologies, think critically and achieve relative independence.

*The program also provides the unique opportunity to perform research in leading laboratories through two 3-month lab internships (2nd Semester lab rotations) and a full-year MSc dissertation thesis (3rd and 4th Semesters), during which students will receive deep innovative & multidisciplinary training, combining practical experience & theoretical knowledge in disease mechanisms, state-of-the-art technologies, animal modeling, clinical validation, large scale omics analysis, advanced imaging platforms, as well as complementary training in innovation, entrepreneurship & technology transfer. The MSc program in Molecular Biomedicine will fully prepare students to pursue successful research and entrepreneurial careers in the new era of molecular and personalized medicine.

🇫🇷🤝🇬🇷 On Friday 27 February 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor (Sorbonne Université, IBPS – NeuroSU, Paris, France) at the BSRC "Alexander Fleming", Greece.

Within this year’s International MSc in Molecular Biomedicine program of the Ιατρική Σχολή ΕΚΠΑ / NKUA Medical School and the , Prof. delivered the second course taught by a faculty member from Sorbonne Université, following Prof. ’s course last October. We sincerely thank our students (class 2025-2027) for their enthusiastic welcome and vibrant participation!

During his visit, Prof. El-Habr also met Prof. (incoming Director of the International MSc program), Prof. (current Director of the program), as well as Dr. (Director and Chairman of the Board of the BSRC “Alexander Fleming”). He toured the research laboratories where the MSc mobility students will soon be hosted, and visited the Fleming Museum of Contemporary Science.

His visit underscored our shared commitment to advancing biomedical education and research, fostering stronger links between Master’s programs in and through joint teaching, student and staff mobility, and collaborative research initiatives planned for 2026.

Warm thanks to all colleagues at NKUA: Prof. George Kollias, Prof. Maria Tsoumakidou, Prof. Spiros Efthimiopoulos and Prof. Christina Piperi, at the BSRC “Alexander Fleming”: Dr. George Panayotou and at SU: Prof. Sonia-Athina Karabina and Prof. Bertrand Blondeau whose efforts continue to strengthen this dynamic academic bridge between our institutions.

Each year the MSc students organize an international scientific conference that brings together leading researchers, clinicians, innovators and students around a central biomedical theme. This unique initiative gives them the opportunity to take responsibility for planning and outreach, while fostering scientific dialogue across academia and industry.

The conference focuses on cutting-edge advancements in biomedical innovation, highlighting how emerging technologies are transforming drug development and therapeutic strategies. Through sessions on advanced drug delivery, biomaterials, gene editing, cancer research, and molecular entrepreneurship, the event brings together leading experts to explore breakthroughs from the lab to clinical application. Our MSc Students Ariadni DAMANAKI (Prof. Dimitrios Boumpas Lab - BRFAA), Athanasios EMMANOUILIDIS (Dr. Themis Alissafi Lab - BRFAA), Lampros KARKANIS (Dr. Panagiotis Verginis Lab - BRFAA), Marianthi MAROULI (Dr. Christoforos Nikolaou Lab - BSRC "Alexander Fleming"), Pavlina MICHA (Dr. Apostolos Klinakis Lab - BRFAA) and Artemis MONOGYIOU (Dr. Vassiliki Koliaraki Lab - BSRC "Alexander Fleming") have been selected among the top European MSc students to attend the Summer School & Blended Intensive Program (BIP) CIVIS - Europe's Civic University Alliance course "Immuno-oncology in the spatial omics era" co-organized by our programme and the Aix-Marseille Université (amU) - (ICI) between 7-11 July 2025.

All of them were also awarded an international scholarship funded through the CIVIS fund and provided to outstanding postgraduate students to attend the international CIVIS program.

● was awarded the 1st Prize of the "Spatial Omics Challenge", a team-competition for which students presented their own scientific project elaborated during the whole week of the Summer School. The winning team was headed and mentored by from the BSRC "Alexander Fleming", Greece.

Both competitions were evaluated by an international committee of renowned researchers, with the participation of 40 international students. Warmest congratulations to all!

This 2025 Summer School: "Immuno-oncology in the spatial omics era" (third edition) entirely in English, was designed for international MSc and PhD students in the fields of and who are looking to further their knowledge and skills in the field of . The program includes tutorials, specialized courses taught by local professors, small-group workshops in local labs for hands-on experiments and data analysis, poster sessions presented by the students, a team-competition in which students design and present their own scientific project, and cutting-edge spatial omics seminars and in-depth research talks offered by Internationally renowned lecturers (from Yale University, EMBL, NKI, UNIL, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University Hospital Tübingen, Sapienza University of Rome, WSIC, University Hospital Heidelberg/DKFZ, CIML, CRCM, etc.)
