Results day today !

Foundation College is not a selective school in that we do not select our students (though I am sure they select us) to improve our statistics.

Yet in the January 2023 A-level exams we had a remarkable set of results and an outstanding statistic of perfect scores. Out of a total of 69 exam takes we had 32 “A” including 11 perfect scores (100/100, 120/120 or 80/80 depending on the subject).

Not bad for students most of who started their A-levels only a few months ago.

Getting a UK student visa should in most cases take about an hour on a smartphone. You need to have a CAS number (this is provided by the institution that accepts you), your passport and about 800 pounds in a debit or credit card to pay for the Visa and the health insurance. There's a lot of information being asked including dates of past international travel but nothing to justify the weeks or months that it is rumoured to take. You don't wait for your application to get approved. This is done immediately as you complete the process and your visa is issued instantaneously.

If it takes you two hours this because you are slow tapping the keys or you are trying to remember when it was that you travelled to the UK in, say, 2015....

It's very hard to swallow that the world needs one language especially for the French, a people with great history, culture and contribution to our civilization. However what made the english language successful is that the English had no such qualms, and happily espoused french words such as menu, cordon bleu, connoisseur, entrepreneur and more. One may argue what's the problem of using a french word for cloud gaming. The problem is that when a French user needs to communicate about cloud gaming with an english speaking colleague he may have delve into his deeper memory to recover the English term for jeu video en nuage (as well as taking longer to type it)

In case you thought all British universities now cost 20000£ per year, here is Newcastle, one of the best English universities costing about the same as it did before Brexit.

I do respect the many decent European universities offering English speaking degrees but there's no comparison with what you would get from a native English university as reputable as Newcastle.

Students don't need to be at school for 6 or more hours every day. The pandemic was an excellent opportunity to show this. Instead of being surprised that students don't want to return to classes educators should revise schooling down to a couple of hours a day. I can see a multitude of side effects with such change but this is no reason to perpetuate something which has outgrown its purpose.
