A new international academic collaboration in the field of energy storage was officially presented in Athens.

The Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Μακεδονίας and the České vysoké učení technické v Praze introduced the Joint MSc Programme “Energy Storage Technologies and Systems” during a special event dedicated to the future of energy transition, storage technologies and industry needs.

The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Υπουργείο Παιδείας, Θρησκευμάτων και Αθλητισμού, responsible for Higher Education, Nikos Papaioannou, who highlighted the strategic importance of internationalization in higher education and the growing need for highly specialized professionals in energy storage, smart grids and renewable energy systems.

The programme aims to equip the next generation of engineers and scientists with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in one of the most dynamic sectors of the global energy transition.

Academics, industry representatives and energy market stakeholders discussed the challenges and opportunities of modern energy systems, emphasizing the crucial role of innovation, flexibility and international cooperation.

A new international academic initiative in the field of energy transition was officially presented at the Campus of the Πανεπιστήμιο Δυτικής Μακεδονίας in Kozani.

The Joint MSc Programme “Energy Storage Technologies and Systems”, developed in collaboration with České vysoké učení technické v Praze in Prague, marks another important step towards the internationalization of higher education and research.

The programme, which will be offered in English and lead to a dual degree, focuses on modern energy storage technologies and energy systems, addressing the growing demands of renewable energy integration and the evolving energy sector.

During the presentation, the structure, thematic areas and opportunities of the programme for students and professionals were highlighted, emphasizing the increasing need for specialized expertise in the energy transition era.

The programme is expected to launch in the academic year 2027–2028, while the collaboration between the two universities also opens new perspectives for joint research, mobility and participation in European projects.
