Ο αείμνηστος Καθηγητής του Τμήματός μας, κος Νίκος Μάργαρης, αναγγέλλει την ίδρυση του Τμήματος Περιβάλλοντος του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου (ξεκινώντας με το μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα σπουδών το 1986 και την εισδοχή των πρώτων προπτυχιακών φοιτητών το 1987), στην ΕΡΤ και στην εκπομπή του Νίκου Δήμου "ΔΙΑΛΟΓΟΙ".
Η συνολική συζήτηση έχει ενδιαφέρον ως προς την οπτική των συνομιλητών για τα περιβαλλοντικά ζητήματα, τα Ελληνικά ΑΕΙ και άλλα, με την απόσταση των 40 χρόνων που έχει μεσολαβήσει.

Almost half of the world’s farmers are poisoned by pesticides every single year, a study has found. Using publicly available data from 2006-2023, the study, which was commissioned by Pesticide Action Network, found there to be an estimated 402-433 million cases of unintentional acute pesticide poisoning of farmers and farm workers every year.

Stretching from West Africa to the Gulf of Mexico, a massive bloom of sargassum seaw**d is swamping beaches and killing coastal wildlife. The coastlines of 30 countries across the Caribbean and beyond are being visited by the brown mats piling up on beaches, where the w**d decomposes, releasing gases such as hydrogen sulfide, with its distinctive rotten-egg smell, and ammonia, which trigger asthma attacks and exacerbate other respiratory conditions. Thousands of victims have been reported by doctors in the Caribbean, especially among workers clearing beaches. But scientists have discovered the floating algae also shelters a vast array of ocean creatures, and some are now calling for its protection.

Weekly Soil Moisture data from the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service, tracked from 02 May to 23 August 2026, shows a clear and stubborn pattern: from Germany through Hungary and into Ukraine, surface soil moisture has stayed markedly low for most of the growing season. \.. Water stress already affects roughly a third of Europe's population every year, and the area exposed to severe drought conditions has continued to grow in recent years.
Sustained soil moisture deficits like the one shown here are one of the key early-warning signals for agricultural drought risk.
