The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (ΕΘΑΑΕ) has accredited the MSc Sustainable Blue Economy of the Department of Maritime Studies Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς, University of Piraeus - Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώςersity of Piraeus.
The accreditation pertains to the quality of the programme’s educational processes and structures and is valid for the 2026–2031 period.
For us, this is a moment of genuine joy and pride. It is also the outcome of a carefully designed quality policy: delivering educational outcomes that lie at the heart of our academic vision, consistently monitoring and improving our performance, engaging professors with substantial academic and professional expertise, and developing a graduate programme that seeks to remain both policy-relevant and academically innovative.
This accreditation did not take place in an institutional vacuum. The programme builds on the long-standing contribution of the Department of Maritime Studies to shipping and the blue economy, as well as on the broader strategy and quality culture of the University of Piraeus, which encourages academic excellence and meaningful engagement with stakeholders — first and foremost our students.
Ultimately, it is for our students that this accreditation matters most. It is a recognition of our commitment to their educational needs and aspirations, and a pledge that we will continue to support their academic and professional journey in the years to come.

Educational Trip to New York | Day #1

As part of a joint educational visit with the M.Sc. in Marine Science & Technology Management and the Department of Maritime Studies Τμήμα Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς-, our students attended the 20th Annual Capital Link International Shipping Forum (March 9, 2026), one of the leading global gatherings of maritime stakeholders.

The Forum offered a valuable opportunity to engage directly with investors, shipowners, financiers, policymakers and senior industry professionals, reflecting our commitment to combining rigorous academic training with meaningful exposure to real-world decision-making.

Discussions on sustainable shipping were central, highlighting the interplay between risk–return considerations and long-term development priorities. Participation in such forums allows students to gain first-hand insight into the challenges shaping the future of the sustainable blue economy.

We are grateful to Capital Linkfor their warm hospitality and for hosting such an impactful platform for policy-oriented discussion.

On March 6, the MSc in Sustainable Blue Economy held its 2026 graduation ceremony at the UniversityofPiraeus University of Piraeus - Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς .
We awarded postgraduate degrees to a distinguished group of graduates, marking the completion of a demanding programme and the beginning of their professional lives.
This year, the top two graduates of the programme have been selected as recipients of scholarships offered by the Rotary Club of Athens—an important recognition of their academic excellence.
Graduation does not conclude our connection. It marks the continuation of a shared academic experience and a common commitment to sustainable development.
We are confident that our graduates will contribute with judgment and responsibility to the sectors and communities they will serve.

Last Monday, October 6 2025, we hosted the Welcome Ceremony for our incoming students of the 2025-2026 academic year. The Ceremony took place at the Ceremony Hall of the University of Piraeus - Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώςof Piraeus.
Welcome addresses were delivered by the Director of the MSc Programme Professor Andreas Andrikopoulos, the Head of the Department of Maritime Studies-University of Piraeus of Maritime Studies - University of Piraeus Professor IoannisTheotokas, Professor Emeritus Vasileios Tselentis, Professor Maria BOILE, Assistant Professor Stefanos Chatzinikolaou and Assistant Professor Anastasia Christodoulou.
Furthermore, the Welcome Ceremony included a panel discussion titled "Sustainable shipping: Key challenges and the road ahead" with the Environmental Engineer, Sustainability Consultant and Auditor Dr Spyridoula Maltezou, Dimitra Louizou of Wärtsilä and Epameinondas Chandros of Grant Thornton Greece. The discussion was moderated by Assistant Professor Anastasia Christodoulou and highlighted the challenges facing the shipping industry in the domain of sustainability with respect to technology, policy design, reporting practices and the role of university education.
