More information about our Agency: It’s located in Thessaloniki (North Greece-Central Macedonia) and the main responsibilities are the evaluation, diagnosis, support and integration of pupils’ and youths’ with special education needs by designing and implementing intervention programs. The pupils and students (all the types and degrees of disability) are educat
ed in many different school settings as: Mainstream Schools, Vocational Secondary Education Schools, Special Laboratories for Vocational, Education and Training, colleges and universities. At the same time the SENDSC carries out advisory work to youths, parents (parents advocacy) and member staff who work in the vulnerable area of special needs education (teachers, social workers, physical education teachers, psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists…. ). Finally it is connected and cooperates with health and welfare services, local authorities and other specialists providing specific knowledge, support, tools. Among the SENDSC responsibilities there are:
- The detection of students with disabilities,
- The diagnosis of the type of difficulty,
- The general assessment of the pupils,
- The recommendation for inclusion in the appropriate school level
- Creating individualized education program,
- Psychosocial support to parents and students,
- Provide advice to parents,
- The support of teachers,
- The recommendation for granting special aid for students,
- The recommendation for an oral examination of students with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia),
- The partnership with the community and stakeholders. The work is characterized by collegiality: decisions and their application in the meetings involve multidisciplinary teams, consisting of teachers of preschool education, special education staff, particularly social workers, therapists, child psychiatrists, physiotherapists and psychologists.
