Anatolia American University and the University of Macedonia Launch a New Era of Academic Collaboration

Anatolia American University is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Macedonia, establishing a strategic partnership grounded in a shared commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the advancement of higher education in Greece.

The agreement creates a framework for collaboration in teaching, research, academic exchange, and initiatives of mutual interest, opening new opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers at both institutions.

As Dr. Stylianos Katranidis, Rector of the University of Macedonia, noted, the Memorandum sends a clear message that public universities in Greece are actively exploring partnerships with the country's newly established non-state universities whenever such collaborations can create meaningful added value for education, research, and society.

Dr. Stamos Karamouzis, Provost of Anatolia American University, described the agreement as the beginning of a new era of openness, trust, and constructive partnership in Greek higher education. He emphasized that collaboration between a public and a non-state university demonstrates how academic excellence, innovation, and an international outlook can unite institutions around a common mission: advancing education, research, and knowledge creation.

More than an institutional agreement, this Memorandum reflects a shared vision for the future—one in which collaboration strengthens universities, expands opportunities, and contributes to the progress of society through education and research.

We look forward to a productive and enduring partnership with the University of Macedonia.

In a world shaped by geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption, migration flows, and shifting alliances, diplomacy has never been more relevant — or more human.

Michael and Kitty Dukakis Center for Public and Humanitarian Service of Anatolia American University bring together Consuls General and diplomats from Albania, Bulgaria, France, Germany, and Romania for the discussion “Diplomacy in a World in Flux” in Thessaloniki.

What stood out most was the reminder that diplomacy today is not confined to closed-door negotiations. It directly affects societies, citizens, and the way nations navigate complex global challenges together.

A valuable initiative that opened meaningful dialogue between diplomatic professionals, students, and the wider public — reinforcing the importance of international cooperation, trust-building, and civic engagement in uncertain times.

The Dukakis Center had the pleasure of supporting ThessISMUN 2026 between 15 and 19 April, the oldest and largest annual Model United Nations event of its kind in Greece, organized by the University of Macedonia since 2002.

More than 300 students from Greece and abroad took part, developing valuable skills in negotiation, public speaking, leadership, and decision-making.

We were especially pleased to be represented by two Political Science & International Relations students, Agapi Farra and Lydia Hatsiuli.

Anatolia American University was the only non-state university in Greece to participate, and our students had the opportunity to collaborate and build strong connections with peers from other higher education institutions.
