39 faculty members from HKUST’s Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) have been named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2026 by Stanford University!

Representing a 26% increase over last year, this cohort accounts for 36% of our tenure-track faculty, including joint appointments. Among the honorees across our Divisions, 22 AIS faculty members earned spots on both the career-long and single-year impact lists, demonstrating both enduring academic influence and timely innovation.

From Artificial Intelligence and Strategic Technologies to Environmental Sciences and Clinical Medicine, our scholars continue to lead without boundaries, pioneering cross-disciplinary research and innovative pedagogy.

🇬🇧𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻🌍

For 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘂 𝗛𝗢 𝗬𝗶-𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴, a Year 4 student from the 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 & 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗧&𝗠-𝗗𝗗𝗣), exchange at University College London (UCL) was a chance to embrace new cultures and gain independence outside Hong Kong.

Majoring in Civil Engineering and Finance, Pasu took two specialized courses on seismology at UCL. Because earthquakes are relatively uncommon in Hong Kong due to its geological setting and low level of seismic activity, this offered him a fascinating and unique academic perspective.

Beyond academics, every experience broadened his perspective and created unforgettable memories—from exploring London’s vibrant culture of greetings to traveling across Central Europe. This eye-opening experience has shaped his academic and career aspirations toward roles that value global exposure, adaptability, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Repost The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology • HKUST Convenes Global Leaders at CARE2026 to Drive Climate Adaptation and Urban Resilience

Turning climate science and early warnings into practical action to protect people, strengthen infrastructure and finance resilience is the focus of the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Conference 2026 (CARE2026) at HKUST. Running from 8 to 10 October, the conference opened with calls to connect scientific knowledge with better preparedness and decisions that make cities more resilient.

The conference brought together over 500 policymakers, scientists, infrastructure experts, finance and insurance leaders, industry stakeholders and community representatives from around the world. Discussions examined how forecasting and early warning systems can inform decisions about housing, infrastructure, biodiversity, nature-based solutions and finance, drawing on Hong Kong’s experience alongside regional and international perspectives.

Opening speakers highlighted three priorities: advancing research and practical solutions, aligning climate action with Hong Kong’s development plans, and strengthening the link between science and urban decision-making. They included Prof. Tim CHENG Kwang-Ting, Vice-President for Research and Development of HKUST; Mr. TSE Chin-Wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government; and Prof. Celeste SAULO, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), who delivered a video address. Other first-day speakers included Dr. Estelle de CONING, Chief of World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) of the WMO, and Prof. CHEN Fei, Co-Chair of WWRP Urban-PREDICT of the WMO (Urban-PREDICT) and Associate Head of the Division of Environment and Sustainability of HKUST.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗺 🌍

Seeking to broaden his horizons beyond HKUST, 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗛𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗞𝘄𝘂𝗻-𝗛𝗼𝗶, a Year 4 student from the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), embarked on an exchange journey at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. From building a gait-movement data visualization dashboard with an international team to exploring the stunning landscapes across the region, Howard discovered that productivity and work-life balance can go hand in hand. This exchange has shaped his career aspirations toward roles that value autonomy, flexibility, and effective self-management.
