SPEAR (Sports Physiotherapy Exposure And Rehabilitation Programme) offers students an invaluable platform for hands-on learning in sports physiotherapy! ✨🙌
From supporting HKMU sports teams and major sports events (e.g. the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 🏃🏅) to adaptive sports initiatives (e.g. Sailability Hong Kong ⛵️), SPEAR provides a wide range of professional support:
• Delivering sports injury prevention and health education talks 🗣️📚
• Providing on-site physiotherapy and taping services at competitions 🩹⚡️
• Conducting pre-season physical assessments to identify athletes at risk of injury, monitoring their physical condition and recovery progress during and after the season, and providing personalised exercise prescriptions 🩺💪

👶✨ Foundations of Physiotherapy: Gross Motor Assessment – Uncovering the Hidden Dynamics of Infant Movement

Join our hands-on workshop designed for physiotherapists and physiotherapy students interested in paediatric practice and early motor development.

Led by Ms Eva CHAN, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Physiotherapy, HKMU, this workshop combines developmental theory with supervised practical sessions using human infants as well as simulators.

Participants will learn to:
✅ Relate major developmental theories to emerging gross motor skills
✅ Outline typical gross motor milestone progression in infancy
✅ Recognise early signs of delayed or atypical motor development
✅ Develop appropriate basic intervention ideas based on observed dysfunctions or delays

Happy World PT Day from HKMU Physio!🌍

Thank you to everyone who joined our Health Booths today at IOH, MC and JCC. From games and balance checks to the agility challenge and postcard walk, it was great seeing campus get moving.

This year’s World PT Day focuses on cardiovascular disease and stroke — and how physiotherapy and everyday activity help prevent, manage, and support recovery. Even small steps count: move more, sit less, and look after your heart.

A snapshot from our MSc in Adaptive Sports class at Hong Kong Metropolitan University — students tried mini ten-pin bowling designed for people with visual impairment and wheelchair users, and also had a first taste of floor curling.
We were honoured to learn from
Daniel Chan Ho Yuen, MH (Hong Kong Para-badminton Paralympian) and
Cheung Hoi Tung (Hong Kong para ten-pin bowling athlete).
Great energy, lots of laughs, and genuine team building as everyone experienced the sports.
