Applications are open for the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (JRFS) at the HKUST Division of Public Policy.

We are particularly seeking postdoctoral researchers interested in exploring emerging critical technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and their implications for public policy and governance in addressing sustainability challenges, including climate change, biodiversity, and the circular economy. The JRFS provides support to awardees for 24 months to conduct full-time postdoctoral research, with an optional extension of up to 12 months upon request. The annual stipend of approximately HKD 430,000 (equivalent to USD 54,810) covers the awardee's basic salary, along with a conference and research-related travel allowance of approximately HKD 13,600 (equivalent to USD 1,733). The deadline is August 30, 2026.

For HKUST's Division of Public Policy (PPOL) students Hu Lingyi and Liu Yangyang, it meant combining public policy with GIS-based spatial analysis to explore smarter, more sustainable urban planning — an approach that earned them Second Prize at the Global Sustainability Challenge (Asia-Pacific Final).
