Delighted to welcome Aram Karakashian, Executive Director at Imperial Business School, to for discussions on expanding collaboration opportunities between our institutions. The visit included productive exchanges with our Undergraduate and MSc program teams on areas of mutual interest and potential avenues for future partnership.

Hosted by Associate Dean Prof. KOH Tat Koon and MSc Programs Head Salad KWOK, the discussions explored how our two business schools can work more closely together to create new opportunities for student development, international learning, and academic exchange.

With a shared commitment to nurturing globally minded talent, HKUST and Imperial also discussed ways to enhance student mobility between Hong Kong and the UK, enrich international learning experiences, and explore potential study pathways to broaden students' global perspectives.

As higher education becomes increasingly interconnected, the School looks forward to strengthening global partnerships that broaden perspectives, foster cross-border collaboration, and support talent development.

Speed is relative. While many people slow down when faced with uncertainty, our Kellogg-HKUST EMBA alumnus TUNG Ho-Pin does the opposite. As a former Formula One driver accustomed to racing at 300 km/h, standing still was never an option—so he accelerated.

So when it came time to navigate a new chapter in his career, he chose to invest in himself., Tung shares that his classmates with “different experiences and different expertise” were among the biggest gifts of the program, exposing him to perspectives that sharpened his approach to business leadership.

Reflecting on the unpredictability of today's business environment, Tung notes: “𝗡𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀.”

In Spring 2025/26, our HKUST MSc in International Management (MIMT CEMS) students stepped into the role of consultants to tackle complex strategic challenges for real-world organizations. Their goal was to deliver actionable recommendations to support high-level management decision-making for our corporate partners, including 𝗛𝗦𝗕𝗖, 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗥, 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗳, 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗳 & 𝗔𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, and the 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.

Working in teams under professional guidance, students conducted in-depth, strategy-focused projects across diverse sectors – including finance, retail, and tourism. These projects created value for both students and corporate partners by providing hands-on consulting experience while delivering valuable insights and practical recommendations.

Football is one of the world's most established sports and a multi-billion-dollar global business. Data now plays a central role in how clubs make decisions on and off the pitch. At the 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗨𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, students were challenged to develop a five-year market-entry strategy for European football clubs through the integration of AI-powered sports analytics platforms.

Competing against more than 200 teams, our undergraduate students swept the competition's top honours, taking home the Champion Award, First Runner-up Award, and Best Presenter Award🏆!

In his welcome address, Dean Frederik Anseel reminded students that success at university is about more than academic achievement. Taking care of your mental well-being, building meaningful relationships, and reaching out for support when needed are all part of a rewarding university experience.

When our alumnus Frankie LEUNG joined HKUST’s inaugural cohort, the campus was literally under construction. There were no student clubs, no traditions, and few signs of what university life would become.

Rather than wait for traditions to emerge, Frankie helped establish them. He co-founded the Business Students’ Union (BSU)—even sketching the logo still in use today—proving that “𝗔𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲.” ✨ This visionary mindset defined his journey from an unfinished campus to becoming a Partner at Bain & Company.

Now, Frankie is paying it forward. To honor the legacy of his late mentor, Founding Dean Prof. Yuk-Shee CHAN, he continues to give back—empowering the next generation of trailblazers to embrace ambiguity and build their own dreams. 🤝
