Dear colleagues,

We would like to remind you that you still have time to decide who will represent you on the Council for the coming two years from August 2022 to July 2024.
Please vote via the e-link provided to each of you by HRO in the email sent out on the morning of 30th June. Please remember that you can only vote once. The deadline for voting is at noon on Thursday (14th July 2022).

The two candidates are Dr. Mohammed Aquil Mirza and Dr. Rodney W.C. Chu, respectively.

Emergency Statement 緊急聲明

我們非常憂慮香港理工大學校園內外現時發生的嚴重警民衝突，呼籲雙方克制，避免使用致命武器。目前的僵局乃由政府一連串決策失誤造成，應該負責任地政治解決。作為教師，我們最重視的是各人的安全與健康。我們希望警方不要主動攻入校園，以免矛盾激化。同時呼籲校園內的師生及其他人士盡快離開，以保障雙方及所有人的人身安全。

We are very worried about the serious police-civilian conflicts that are taking place inside and outside the campus of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We call on both sides to exercise restraint and avoid the use of deadly weapons. The current stalemate is caused by a series of government decision-making mistakes and should be resolved responsibly. As teachers, we attach the most importance to the safety and health of each individual. We hope that the police will not take the initiative to break into the campus, so as not to intensify the conflict. At the same time, we plead all teachers and students and other people on campus to leave as soon as possible to protect the personal safety of all parties.

18歲中五男生曾志健於前日國慶（10月1日）當天，在荃灣追打警員時被實彈射中左胸穿肺，今被控一項暴動罪及兩項襲警罪。除了曾志健，有五男一女被控暴動罪，其中一人被控縱火罪，案件同在沙田裁判法院提堂。

各位同事：

過去的週日（即6月9號），數以十萬計的市民上街遊行，反對政府修訂逃犯條例。然而，特區政府仍堅持在6月12號星期三（即明天）在立法會進行二讀修訂案。此舉激起各界人士的不滿，我們對事態的發展感到憂慮。

目前已有不少團體，呼籲香港市民在明天向立法會議員表達對逃犯條例修訂的關注和擔心。亦有良心僱主表明會作出特別安排，讓員工在工作期間，前往向立法會議員表達意見。教職員協會相信大學有不少員工，對事件同樣表示關注，我們認為員工可以在不影響工作之情況下向部門請假。本會得悉其他大學的工會也有作出相關的呼籲。我們希望大學的管理層能體諒員工，寬容處理同事們的請假申請。

對於需要緊守工作崗位的同事，任何自我表達方式都是一份支持。只要我們團結起來，說出我們的心聲，一切都會更美好 !
