Since 2022, GIFT's annual virtual conference series has explored China's evolving role in shaping the world around us.

This year, the series returns for its next edition, "𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿”, to explore how the boundaries that once defined global power and influence are being tested, redrawn, and reimagined.

The first part of this three-part series, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲, delves into how the conflict in the Middle East is reshaping global energy dynamics.

Beyond the immediate geopolitical fallout, the crisis has exposed vulnerabilities in how the world produces and secures energy, with China emerging as a key actor in this evolving landscape.

Join us for a timely conversation on the forces reshaping global power and what they mean for leaders, businesses, and societies navigating an increasingly uncertain world.

Much of the commentary on China has recently been focusing on its new, stricter stance with its big tech companies. Many have expressed concern that these steps may hinder the development of China’s tech scene.

Yet the application of this firmer policy approach on ‘ed tech’ (the combination of IT tools and educational practices to enhance education) might illuminate the steps being taken by the CPC to address tech-enabled inequalities.

“Online education startups raised over $10 billion in 2020, ” writes Shen Lu for Protocol, describing how ed tech providers, keen for their share of this investment have “exacerbated education inequality, a huge pain point for hundreds of millions of Chinese families.”

It's part of an attempt to fix education inequality and address a looming demographic crisis.
