The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted its 10th Anniversary Retitling Banquet at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre tonight (23 October), under the theme “A Decade of Excellence, A New Chapter for the Future of Education.”

More than 600 guests, including representatives from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR (OCMFA), leaders from the education sector, dignitaries and community figures, as well as EdUHK Council members, senior management, faculty, students and alumni, gathered to celebrate EdUHK’s decade of transformation and achievement.

Mr Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, commended EdUHK’s achievements over the past decade and encouraged the University to continue contributing to the development of Hong Kong and the nation through education, talent cultivation and innovation.

Dr David Wong Yau-kar, Chairman of the Council of EdUHK, reflected on the University’s transformative development since retitling, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the EdUHK community and partners, and shared his confidence in the University’s continued growth and leadership in the years ahead.

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, thanked generations of staff, students, alumni and partners for their support, and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to its mission of nurturing future generations through educational innovation and excellence, for the benefit of Hong Kong, the nation and the wider world.

Dr Wong and Professor Lee expressed their sincere appreciation to The Tin Ka Ping Foundation, The D. H. Chen Foundation, and the Wilson and Helena Pong Foundation. Their combined donation of HK$50 million will support the University’s retitling anniversary initiatives and student development.

During the banquet, the University presented commemorative gifts to seven honorary awardees in recognition of their distinguished contributions to education and the advancement of society. Honorary Doctorates were conferred on Professor Ambrose King Yeochi, Dr the Hon Starry Lee Waiking, and Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer. Honorary Fellowships were presented to The Hon George Lau Kakeung, Mrs Mei Ng Fong Siumei, The Hon Jimmy Ng Wingka, and Mr Irons Sze.

EdUHK Holds Honorary Doctorate and Honorary Fellowship Conferment Ceremony🎓

The Education University of Hong Kong held the Honorary Doctorate and Honorary Fellowship Conferment Ceremony at its Tai Po campus today. Officiated by EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar, the ceremony conferred three honorary doctorates and four honorary fellowships on seven distinguished individuals, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the advancement of education and service to the society.

🏅 Honorary Doctorate recipients, listed in alphabetical order of surnames, are:
• Professor Ambrose King Yeo-chi, SBS, JP
• Dr the Hon Starry Lee Wai-king, GBS, JP
• Professor Jeffrey Pfeffer

🏅 Honorary Fellowship recipients, listed in alphabetical order of surnames, are:
• The Hon George Lau Ka-keung, BBS, MH, JP
• Mrs Mei Ng Fong Siu-mei, BBS
• The Hon Jimmy Ng Wing-ka, SBS, BBS, JP
• Mr Irons Sze, GBS, BBS, JP

In his address, EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi‑Kin noted that the ceremony was being held in the 10th anniversary year of the University's retitling, a significant milestone in its history. He paid tribute to the seven award recipients, whose contributions to academia, public policy, environmental sustainability and industry have made a lasting impact on the HKSAR, the nation and the world, and embody the values the University community holds dear. “Each of our distinguished honourees exemplifies the transformative power of visionary leadership, selfless service and unwavering dedication. Their lifetime achievements serve as guiding beacons to our students and graduates, and stand as living testaments to the core values that the University strives to cultivate across our institution: nurturing talents and promoting education; transforming and actualising lives.”

EdUHK has conferred Honorary Fellowships since 2009 and Honorary Doctorates since 2016 to recognise individuals of eminence in society. Recipients include scholars and professionals dedicated to advancing education as well as leaders of distinction from a wide range of professional, industrial and business sectors.
