For Nicole, a Year 5 HKUST BBA student majoring in Information Systems and Marketing, ๐Œ๐ข๐œ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ wasn't the first chapter of her journey. It started earlier as a ๐Œ๐ข๐œ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐€๐ฆ๐›๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐๐จ๐ซ, introducing M365 Copilot to fellow students through campus roadshows and sharing sessions.

What began as a chance to learn more about AI soon became an opportunity to build confidence, sharpen her communication skills, and step outside her comfort zone. So, when the opportunity to join Microsoft as an intern arose, taking that next step felt like a natural progression.

As an ๐€๐œ๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ ๐„๐ฑ๐ž๐œ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง, Nicole worked with clients across banking, insurance, and fintech sectors, supporting market research, account planning, and AI solution discussions. She experienced firsthand how technology can be used to address real business challenges and create meaningful impact.

One of the highlights of her summer was helping organize the ๐Œ๐ข๐œ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ๐†๐ž๐ง ๐“๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ˆ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”. From coordinating stakeholders to designing a hackathon centered on Responsible AI and Agentic AI, she saw how innovation, collaboration, and creativity can come together to inspire the next generation of talent.

More importantly, the internship taught her that successful technology solutions are not just about having the most advanced tools. They begin with ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ข๐ซ ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ฆ.

Different languages fill the air. Parents exchange stories and smiles. Students look around with excitement. Despite coming from every corner of the world, everyone shares the same feeling: this is where my new chapter begins.

That was the vibe at our Welcome Session this past weekend. More than 200 families joined us at HKUST, not simply as visitors passing through but as part of a community that spans continents and cultures.

All coming together as one vibrant international community. As they stepped into this new journey together, everyone shared the same hope, curiosity, and butterflies.

โ€œ The HKUST Pre-university program has lit a path for me to deepen my interests and identify a suitable future career path. I was truly inspired by all the work we have done and motivated me to pursue my dreams of getting into HKUST.

Before joining this summer camp, I was confused about my university program choice, which is a life-deciding decision. Yet, diverse lectures delivered by different faculties broadened my academic horizons and assisted me to select an ideal path which suits me.

Additionally, various social activities such as group trips to Hong Kong Disneyland, BOCHK and the Peak were arranged for us to gain a real-world experience in HK. I was able to go sightseeing and learned new things with my friends outside the classroom. We even picked up practical physics knowledge while riding the Hyperspace Mountain at Disneyland and applied it in our course work.

Moreover, I built valuable friendships with peers from all corners of the world while immersing myself in authentic university lessons. I sincerely treasure every moment we spent, and I am grateful and honored to have met everyone in this camp. โ€

I tried all the restaurants on the campus, and they were all delicious with a nice look. Professors here are all patient enough to answer questions. In my program, Dr. Jac prepared so much for us, and he also invited his students to give us experience, but there was only limited time for him to show us. I hope I can become a formal student of his in the near future. ๐ŸŒŸ

While hanging out outside the school, I was afraid of chatting with foreigners in English (my second language) at the very beginning. But a Mexican girl turned to me and said in a happy voice, "You are the best Chinese I have met in speaking English!" I was encouraged a lot and became more active in the following journeys. ๐Ÿ’ฌโœจ

The most exciting part was the gala dinner. The girl next to me was from London, and we talked happily about Harry Potter. We exchanged our mobile phone numbers, and she welcomed me to go to the UK one day.

I think there are too few words for me to write, but the memory will always remain in my mind. Forever. โค๏ธโ€

For Ida, a final-year HKUST BBA student majoring in Management and Marketing, a six-month internship with ๐‡๐’๐๐‚'๐ฌ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐–๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก & ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐ข๐ž๐ซ ๐๐š๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  team offered a front-row seat to that process to witness how marketing campaigns are brought to life within a global organization.

From supporting TVB sponsorship campaigns to assisting with events at the HSBC Insurance Wealth & Health Center, she experienced firsthand how marketing initiatives come together in a highly regulated and fast-paced environment.

What fascinated her most was the importance of cross-functional collaboration. Successful campaigns require close partnership across marketing, business, compliance, legal, and brand teams, balancing customer needs, business goals, and regulatory requirements every step of the way.

Along the way, Ida strengthened her project coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills while deepening her appreciation for the strategy behind great marketing.

Looking back, her advice is simple: ๐๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž. ๐€๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ข๐๐ž๐ฅ๐ฒ. ๐’๐ž๐ข๐ณ๐ž ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ. On Day 3 of the HKUST Pre-University Program, our students stepped out of the classroom and dove straight into the vibrant heart of Hong Kong!

From taking in panoramic skyline views at ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐ž๐š๐ค ๐Ÿ”๏ธ to soaking up the sea breeze along ๐•๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐š ๐‡๐š๐ซ๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐Ÿ™๏ธ and exploring the historic buildings and Observation Wheel of ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐Ÿ›๏ธ, it was an unforgettable day of city discovery!

More than just a sightseeing trip, this excursion was a fantastic opportunity for our non-local and local students to connect, share laughs, and build lasting friendships across cultures.
