To bridge the gap between recruitment and career development, we brought together successful alumni and experienced industry leaders to share practical insights on navigating the hiring process and building a sustainable career in the years that follow.

At the event ‘𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦: 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬’, our alumni panelists, Emma Cai (Full-time MBA Class of 2026), Vinith Muralidhar (Full-time MBA Class of 2025), and You Na Park, CFA (Full-time MBA Class of 2026), shared candid lessons from navigating highly competitive recruitment processes. But securing the opportunity is only the beginning, in the recent Executive Coffee Chat, Sam Chan, Managing Director and Head of Insurance, Asset Managers & Hedge Funds (FIG) at Crédit Agricole CIB, brought a longer-term perspective shaped by nearly three decades in global banking. As responsibilities grow, he shared how career progression increasingly calls for 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬, alongside the resilience to navigate setbacks.

His advice on building relationships echoed our alumni’s advice: 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.

After eight years leading innovation and manufacturing projects with a global to***co company in Switzerland, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥-𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔) was ready to expand her horizons beyond Europe. As Asia continued to emerge as a major force in global innovation, she saw an opportunity she could not ignore.

“𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑖𝑣𝑜𝑡 𝑚𝑦 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝐴𝑠𝑖𝑎, 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑎 ℎ𝑢𝑏 𝑜𝑓 𝑔𝑙𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑙 𝑖𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛.”

For Manon, leaving Europe was not simply about changing jobs. It was about moving closer to the markets, technologies and business ecosystems shaping the future. Hong Kong naturally became the launchpad for this transition.

“𝐼 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝐻𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝐾𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑡𝑠 𝑑𝑦𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑐 𝑗𝑜𝑏 𝑜𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠, 𝑖𝑡𝑠 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑖𝑠ℎ-𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑖𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎 𝑚𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑠𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑚𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠,” she shares. “𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑔𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑛.”

To complement her engineering expertise, Manon chose the HKUST MBA to broaden her understanding of strategy, finance and AI, while gaining the broader business perspective needed to lead across industries and markets.

For forty years, the world came to China to buy. Now Chinese companies are heading out to sell to the world. In China they call it 𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘪 出海, going overseas🌏, and it has become one of the defining business movements of the decade.

𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐚 has helped more than 𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 make that move. He is an HKUST MBA alumnus, a former senior director at Huawei and the founder of iMpact. 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦: 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘪.

"𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙖 𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙝𝙖𝙞 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙮, 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙮," he told fellow alumni at a recent HKUST session.

Great products and good prices open doors. Chris argues they rarely earn trust, and trust is something no company can build by talking about itself.

The HKUST MBA and the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center hosted the hackathon and symposium together with the Erasmus AI Society and MAIN | Maastricht AI & Tech Network. Hong Kong Talent Engage provided institutional support. The event attracted interest from more than 500 students. The 229 who took part in the hackathon came from 16 universities across Hong Kong, Mainland China, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Within 24 hours, participants developed 56 working AI applications, transforming ideas into solutions for real-world business challenges under the guidance of industry mentors, faculty, and corporate partners.

Industry partners including WeLab, Capco, Bolttech, CLP and AWS challenged participants to rethink banking, wealth management, insurance, sustainability, and urban living through AI. The Venture Launch track invited teams to develop their own AI-native startup ideas, attracting the largest number of submissions.

Nearly six in ten participants described themselves as AI beginners. Yet, with support from mentors across the 𝐇𝐊𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 & 𝐀𝐈 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛, 𝐇𝐊𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢, teams transformed ideas into functioning products in a single weekend.

The event drew strong institutional and industry backing. Mr. Maurits ter Kuile, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hong Kong and Macao, and Ms. Anna Au, Deputy Director of Hong Kong Talent Engage, opened the event, with Hong Kong Talent Engage supporting the Summit as its institutional sponsor. WeLab, Capco, Bolttech, CLP, and AWS served as challenge partners and set the briefs for the five tracks, with Kimi and Lovable supporting as technology partners. Speakers came from Google Cloud, HKT, Capco, Omnichat, and IQAX, alongside Inspect Element and Tudou co-founder Marc van der Chijs. The jury brought together leaders from CLP, WeLab, Capco, Bolttech, Deloitte, Votee, Optimus Labs, and HK AI Partners.

Moving from India to Hong Kong was not simply a change of location for 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐥 (𝐇𝐊𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥-𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔).

During his four years at D.E. Shaw, Prakhar built a solid foundation in financial research and ex*****on while leading high-visibility projects and GenAI initiatives. Seeing how technology can genuinely improve operational efficiency, he wanted to move beyond supporting financial processes and step into roles that shape core business strategy.

That ambition led him to HKUST MBA.
