The Inter University Centre Dubrovnik IUC Summer School: The End of Liberal Modernity?, organized in collaboration with the Sveučilište u Rijeci / University of Rijeka, Institut za filozofiju i društvenu teoriju and Univerza v Ljubljani / University of Ljubljana, continues with discussions on the transformations of modernity, liberalism, labour, justice, and contemporary political thought.

As part of the programme, Prof. Sanja Bojanić, Head of the Center for Advanced Studies South East Europe, presented “Fragmentation of Labour”, exploring the changing forms of labour and their relationship to contemporary social and economic transformations.

📣Today marked the first day of the Inter University Centre Dubrovnik (IUC) Summer School: The End of Liberal Modernity? in , organized by Institut za filozofiju i društvenu teoriju, East China Normal University, Sveučilište u Rijeci / University of Rijeka, Univerza v Ljubljani / University of Ljubljana,Faculty of Arts.

We are bringing together scholars, researchers, and students from around the world for a week of thought-provoking discussions on some of the most pressing political and philosophical questions of our time.

Today's programme featured presentations by Sara Dragišić, David F. L. Gomes, Vukan Marković, Corinna Mieth and Vanja Grujić setting the stage for inspiring conversations on the future of liberal democracy, political realism, social justice, critical theory, and alternative visions of modernity.

Throughout the week, participants will engage in lectures, discussions, and interdisciplinary exchange with distinguished international scholars.

IUC Summer School 2026 | The End of Liberal Modernity?

From 6–10 July 2026, scholars, researchers, and students from across Europe and Asia will gather in Dubrovnik for the Inter University Centre Dubrovnik (IUC) Summer School “The End of Liberal Modernity?”.

Organized through a collaboration between the Institut za filozofiju i društvenu teoriju (University of Belgrade), East China Normal University, the Centre for Advanced Studies Southeast Europe (University of Rijeka), and the Faculty of Arts (Univerza v Ljubljani / University of Ljubljana), the programme will explore some of the most pressing political and philosophical questions of our time. Topics include liberalism and its critics, justice and equality, socialism, labour, democracy, public reason, and emerging post-liberal political imaginaries.

The Summer School brings together an international group of scholars for a week of lectures, discussions, working groups, and collaborative research aimed at advancing critical debates on the future of modern societies.

Earlier this month, Moise Palace on Cres hosted the presentation of Fragmentation and the Future of Work in Digital Capitalism, published by the Sveučilište u Rijeci / University of Rijeka (CAS SEE UNIRI).

The volume is the result of a unique collaboration between researchers from the Univerza v Ljubljani / University of Ljubljana, the University of Belgrade (Institut za filozofiju i društvenu teoriju), and the University of Rijeka. Bringing together diverse perspectives on digitalization, work, democracy, and social change, the book reflects years of shared research, dialogue, and joint academic effort.

Special thanks to Ana Labudović for the publication’s design and visual identity.
