Our first KEYNOTE SPEAKER is MORANA ČAUŠEVIĆ BULLY from University of Franche-Comte who will be presenting the "MONACORALE : New Approaches to the Study of Monastic and Ecclesial complexes on the Adriatic coast from 4th to 12th c." project.

Its main scientific objective is to study the origins and development of monastic institutions and ecclesiastical complexes in the coastal and island areas of the Croatian Adriatic. The programme focuses in particular on the forms and conditions of the spread of the first monasticism of Late Antiquity until the arrival of the Benedictines in the 9th century and their propagation until the 12th century. The programme also deals with the interpretation of ecclesiastical complexes in general, all of which are not necessarily monasteries, but rather the materialisation of new centres of power placed in the heart of the studied territories, and with multiple possible interpretations such as rural bishoprics, presbyteral centres, private complexes, etc.

The communication will focus on the archaeological and landscape methodological approaches that have already been deployed in the programme since 2021.
