Five generations grew up with five very different relationships with technology.
๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ faced limited access and visibly male-dominated environments.
๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ซ increasingly faced a question of professional identity: Can I see myself as an engineer?
๐ ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ๐น๐ had greater access to technology, but the male โcomputer geekโ stereotype and confidence gap persisted.
๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ญ grew up digital, yet belonging, purpose and stereotypes still influence whether girls imagine a future in ICT.
Research suggests that some gender stereotypes can already be internalised around the age of seven.
And one conclusion stands out:
That means the question is no longer simply how to get more women into ICT.
We need to understand when girls begin to see technology as โfor meโ or โnot for meโ โ and what happens along the way.
