On the occasion of World Bee Day, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb, hosted the professional symposium “Bee Health – A Shared Responsibility of Beekeepers, Professionals and Consumers”, organized by Prof. Ivana Tlak Gajger.
The symposium brought together scientists, veterinarians, beekeepers, and other experts from Croatia and Slovenia, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary and international cooperation in safeguarding bee health and protecting pollinators. The event was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Gašper Dovžan, whose attendance further underscored the strong ties between Croatia and Slovenia in promoting sustainable beekeeping, environmental stewardship, and pollinator protection.
Through a series of lectures and discussions, participants exchanged the latest knowledge and experiences on bee health, current challenges in apiculture, and the vital role of veterinary medicine, science, and responsible beekeeping practices in preserving healthy bee populations. Special emphasis was placed on the need for a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders, recognizing the indispensable role of bees in maintaining biodiversity, supporting sustainable agriculture, and ensuring food security.
The symposium once again demonstrated that scientific excellence, knowledge exchange, and international cooperation are essential for addressing the challenges facing bees and beekeeping today, while fostering a more sustainable future for both agriculture and the environment.
