What happens when robots become social actors?

During the Human–Robot Interactions and Reflective Robotics Intensive Course Week, led by David Robert, Director of HRI Design at Boston Dynamics, together with Renáta Dezső and Tamás Fogarasy, students explored how robots can engage meaningfully with humans. The course focused on developing AI agents on the Reachy Mini platform, emphasizing interaction, embodiment, and human–robot relationships.

The course was organized by the Interaction Design MA program and the MOME Robotics Studio.

Photuris – Insight to Impact Project by Miklós Rónai, Interaction Design MA1 student

Meet Photuris, the civic intelligence platform designed to reclaim the urban night. Light pollution endangers the ecosystem and human health, but current reporting channels are limited. Photuris bridges the gap between citizens and the city with a unique dual-loop system. Use it to report broken lights for immediate repair, or log ecological data like insect traps to help planners design wildlife-friendly policies. Powered by AI and community action, it turns your photos into tangible change.

SyntheX – Speculative and Critical Design Project by Aizat Myrzakhmetova, Interaction Design MA2 student

What if love was treated as a biological error? SyntheX is a speculative design project imagining a near-future clinic where relationship problems are diagnosed as failures of personality alignment. Couples on the verge of divorce are offered a technological alternative to separation: modify one partner instead. Using a combination of genomic profiling, psychometric analysis, and predictive compatibility modeling, SyntheX identifies “misaligned” character traits and proposes a permanent behavioral recalibration. The process begins with a decision: who will change? The selected partner provides biometric consent, receives a clinical “Genome Analysis,” and undergoes pharmaceutical personality modification designed to eliminate friction and ensure harmony. SyntheX does not propose a future. It exposes a desire: to remove the uncertainty, discomfort, and negotiation that make relationships human.

ScrollSuit™ - Speculative and Critical Design Project by Kiss Luca Sára, Interaction Design MA2 student

ScrollSuit™ asks: what if society accommodated doomscrolling addiction rather than addressing it? This two-part speculative product includes an inflatable suit that prevents physical injuries (falls, collisions) and a VR headset delivering optimized endless-scroll content with auto-advancing 360° video, reward mechanics, and phantom notifications. By designing enablement rather than intervention, ScrollSuit™ satirizes how technology industries profit from dependency while claiming to enhance experience.
