The 9th ArtHungry Award is approaching, and two projects from MOME’s Design MA programme have been selected for the shortlist.

🔹 Zsombor Égerházi - Bristly

Bristly is a sleek and affordable electric toothbrush designed to reduce plastic waste by up to 75% by replacing only the bristles instead of the full head. Its compact construction minimises material use, manufacturing resources, and carbon footprint, while the durable metal body supports long-term use. A snap-in mechanism allows easy bristle replacement, with colour-coded options available in different hardness levels.

🔹 Őri Panna - MOPS.

MOPS. reflects on the design legacy of Hungarian furniture designer Sándor Mikó. Its metal frame is inspired by one of Mikó’s fruit basket concepts, reinterpreted into a chair and paired with deep red velvet cushions referencing his iconic Te + Én armchair. The contrast between raw welded steel and soft upholstery creates a dialogue between past and present, while highlighting craftsmanship, material honesty, and continuity between design generations.

The ArtHungry Award highlights outstanding contemporary creative work across disciplines, giving visibility to projects that stand out through concept, ex*****on, and originality.

Public voting is open until March 23, midnight on the ArtHungry website. Support our students while there is still time.

MOME Design MA student Sebestyén Ócsai is among the recipients of the Stefan Lengyel Scholarship of Excellence for the 2025–26 autumn semester.

The scholarship recognises the university’s most promising student projects each year, supporting works that respond to relevant social, cultural, and technological questions through outstanding professional quality.

Sebestyén received the award for CHYMERA, a premium shared e-bike system that adapts to individual riders through driver-profile-based automatic settings. The concept explores how future urban mobility can become more flexible, more personalised, and easier to maintain through modular design.

Within the system, electronically adjustable seating, pedals, and handlebars automatically adapt to the user, while interchangeable modules allow the bicycle to respond to different daily mobility needs.

The Stefan Lengyel Scholarship, launched by the Foundation for Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, supports selected projects for five months, giving students the opportunity to further develop ideas with strong innovation potential.

Two projects from MOME’s Design MA programme have been featured on Dezeen, one of the world’s leading architecture and design platforms.

🔹 Reflecta Collection – Nóra Szilágyi
Reflecta is a contemporary lamp collection inspired by the legacy of the Hungarian Szarvasi lamps. The project reinterprets the original designs with modular, easy-to-combine elements and flexible lighting solutions designed especially for young, design-conscious users living in smaller apartments.

🔹 Chymera – MOL Bubi 2035 – Sebestyén Ócsai & Uroš Gavrilović
Chymera explores the future of shared urban mobility through a modular e-bike system. With interchangeable components and digitally stored rider profiles, the bike automatically adapts to different users while supporting flexible configurations for city riding, cargo transport, or passengers.

The Madrid Design Festival brings together designers and projects from across Europe to explore contemporary questions in design, culture, and society. This year, the exhibition curated by Gyárfás Oláh from Transylvanian Design Week was invited to Madrid, where it is currently on display at the Romanian Cultural Institute.

Among the projects presented is SUSLI, a metal sledge designed by Vass Krisztina, now a Design MA student. The project was originally developed during her MOME BA studies in collaboration with Rega Metall, following a brief to design a functional object outside the field of furniture.

SUSLI draws on childhood memories of snowy winters and the shared joy of sledging. As snow becomes increasingly rare due to climate change, the sledge has gradually turned into a forgotten object. The project reflects on this environmental and cultural shift while translating nostalgia into a contemporary design language.

The piece combines a sporty, dynamic form with a metal structure designed for multiple users, emphasising the collective experience traditionally associated with sledging.
The project was first presented in spring 2025 at Transylvanian Design Week in Miercurea Ciuc, Krisztina’s hometown.

Visitors can now see SUSLI at the Madrid Design Festival until March 8.

MOME KIKI, the Kipak Exhibition, offers a platform for students of the English language Master programmes at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design to present their work and initiate professional dialogue within the contemporary art and design scene. Organised for the third time by Art and Design Management students, this year’s exhibition unfolds under the title Living Archive.

At the centre of the exhibition stands the body as the primary site of experience and memory. The selected works interpret instincts, movements, constraints, and emotional imprints as both personal and collective archives. Living Archive operates as an open structure, where individual narratives placed side by side reveal shared experiences.

Among the exhibiting designers is Design MA student Vass Krisztina. Her practice is defined by multifunctionality, the use of classic materials, and a strong conceptual foundation. Usability and aesthetic thinking remain in continuous dialogue within her work, while her Transylvanian roots and local craft traditions shape the character of her objects.

Her exhibited piece, the NO2500 turntable and record storage furniture, reflects on the ritual of listening to music. It recalls a time when music required attention, intention, and physical presence. The project reinterprets this nostalgic experience in a contemporary form, making music listening tangible again, both spatially and physically.

The exhibition is open until 4 March 2026 at editory, Budapest, 1084 Budapest, Déri Miksa utca 6.

The annual Red Dot Design Concept Award ceremony took place in mid-October, and our students attended to collect their prizes.

This year, 12 projects were submitted, and 7 of them received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. Along with 5 wins from the previous year, this brings MOME's total to 12 awards. As a result, MOME has been placed among the Top 3 Western design schools on the Red Dot Design global list.

MOME continues this trend by giving students another chance to apply for the Red Dot and other design awards next year, with the guidance of our teachers.

This is not just an excellent opportunity for international recognition for students before their real-world life starts, but also a chance to master communicating their projects. Hence, they know how to explain complex projects.

16:00 — Student talks: hear from three current and former students about what they’re working on, what life at MOME is like, and what comes after graduation.

16:35 — Q&A: ask your questions—there are no bad questions!

Afterwards — Portfolio review: interested visitors are invited to a collective portfolio review with practical feedback to support applications.

This day is for you—come by, ask freely, and get real insights into building your future at MOME.
