Our director, Jeno Hodi, created his latest film, Skating on the Razor’s Edge, and worked together with many BFA students alongside professional filmmakers. The English version of the film has also been completed and after a few months on the festival circuit, it already achieved numerous successful results. Our guest at the previous Creative Producing class was Katalin Weith, a successful director and producer who began her filmmaking career after studying at the Budapest Film Academy. Here you can read a report by one of our students about the class.

'On Monday at our lecture at Budapest Film Academy we had another special guest, Katalin Weith. She told us about her life, her career at filmmaking and how to achieve our goals no matter how big they are.

I found this lecture very interesting and useful. When a guest comes to our school (and that happens quite a lot, which is so helpful), I always know we will see/hear another point of view. Seeing this many paths and ways to success really motivates us and also helps us find our own way.

Katalin is a lovely producer and director who had so big goals at first, not many people believed in her. Now she is closer to her original dream than ever. She also told us that having a goal and making moves actively towards that is important, but enjoying smaller projects and the path itself to achieving the original goal is essential as well.

She was a businesswoman earlier in her life and she shared important details with us about what we can use from her original career. I felt like we got insight from her that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise, so I’m truly grateful for that.

The lecture consisted of she telling us about her journey, then she and Jenő Hódi, our teacher started talking about things we need to do/can use in our own career. Of course, we could ask as many questions as we wanted, and they answered them all. One thing I like about this environment is that no one thinks any less of you, if you ask a question. Everyone knows this is how we will learn.
To sum it up it was another important lecture at Budapest Film Academy, where we saw another aspect of filmmaking form another professional.'

Yesterday it was great seeing two of my former students, Ariana Skeeland and Marc Brockwell. In 2018 they were in Budapest with the Loyola Marymount study abroad program, and attended the Budapest Film Academy for three months. It was great to hear that they are doing well. Both of them are working in television, and the friendship what they established here in Budapest is going strong.

They came to Budapest to visit for a few days, and I was incredibly happy to hear how many of the students from this group are still keeping the friendship, and that their Budapest Film Academy experience was a real special time for them. In a way they reminded me why we are doing this joint program with LMU.

Thank you, Ariana and Marc! It was wonderful seeing both of you again. I wish you all the best!

Elkészült igazgatónk, Hódi Jenő legújabb rövidfilmje, az Alku, melynek forgatásán rengeteg Budapest Film Academy diák dolgozott. Ez részét képezi egy egész estés mozifilmnek, aminek premierje február 5-én lesz 20 órakor egy budapesti moziban. Egyik legutóbbi diákfilmünk, a 'Kitérő', a New York-i győzelem után most Párizsban is nyert a Beyond the Curve Nemzetközi Filmfesztiválon. Gratulálunk mindenkinek, aki dolgozott a filmen! 🙂
