Major moments of urbanisation in Budapest in the 19th century.
🔹Although Buda had already played an important role in the Middle Ages, and the stages of the urbanisation process (the formation of guilds, the growth of immigrants from the countryside and the increase in the number of city dwellers) were present in the city until the beginning of the modern era, it was in the 19th century that we can first speak of a more intensive urbanisation process.
🔹The main reason for this may be the first industrial revolution and the Hungarian nobility's cultural revival, since it was at this time that the nobility began to support the strengthening and development of Hungarian culture. The Hungarian language was introduced as a subject in schools and the town had already started to use steam engines.
🔹Agricultural processing factories appeared, along with machinery manufacturing companies, and more and more people began to move into the town, creating a working class.
🔹There seemed to be a growing bourgeoisie, as well as a layer of workers who worked in the factories and factories. This is why this phase of industrialisation can be considered the first major urbanisation point of Budapest.
🔹The city's development was further enhanced by the inauguration of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in 1849, which connected Buda and Pest, and from then on we can talk about Budapest.
