2026. május 21-22-én sikeresen lezajlott az Aspects of Manchu Studies című nemzetközi konferencia, melyet Kőhalmi Katalin (1926-2012) születésének 100. évfordulója alkalmából szervezett az ELTE Mongol és Belső-ázsia Tanszéke partnerintézményeivel együttműködésben. A konferencia szervezésében és támogatásában részt vett az ELTE Buddhizmus-kutatás Központja, a Mongol Állami Egyetem Mongol Nyelvi és Nyelvészeti Tanszéke, Irodalmi és Művészeti Tanszéke, a Mongol Mandzsuisztikai Szövetség, Mongólia magyarországi nagykövetsége és a MTA Könyvtárának Keleti Gyűjteménye.
A konferencia megnyitóján Birtalan Ágnes, az ELTE Mongol és Belső-ázsiai Tanszék Egyetemi egyetemi tanára, Hamar Imre, a Távol-keleti Intézet igazgatója és N. Enkhtaivan, Mongóliai budapesti nagykövete mondtak beszédet, valamint a Mongol Állami Egyetem rektorhelyettesének és a Nemzetközi Mongolisztikai Szövetség főtitkárának, D. Zayabaatarnak az üdvözletét olvasta fel G. Eldev-Ochir, a Mongol Állami Egyetem Tudománykarának dékánhelyettese. Ezt követően Birtalan Ágnes olvasta fel Róna-Tas András akadémikus Kőhalmi Katalinról szóló visszaemlékezését, valamint Sh. Egshig, a Mongol Állami Egyetem professzora osztott meg emlékeket és fényképeket Kőhalmi Katalinról.
A konferencián 10 ország több mint 40 kutatója adott elő a mandzsu nyelvészet, műveltség és történelem változatos vonatkozásairól, valamint ezek tágabb kontextusához kapcsolódó témákról. Az előadók között elismert tudósok és fiatal kutatók egyaránt megtalálhatók voltak, s a fórum kiváló lehetőséget biztosított az eszmecseréhez számukra. A konferencia zárásaként Birtalan Ágnes foglalta össze az eredményeket, valamint T. Otgontuul és B. Egshig, a Mongol Állami Egyetem professzorai köszönték meg a szervezést és a lebonyolítást. Otgontuul professzor egyúttal meghívta a résztvevőket a 2027. májusában Ulánbátorban megrendezendő mandzsu témájú tudományos konferenciára is.
A konferencia 0. napján a részvevők a MTA Könyvtárának Keleti Gyűjteményébe látogathattak, ahol Rottár Máté mutatta be a gyűjtemény egyes mandzsu vonatkozású darabjait, valamint egy válogatást Kőhalmi Katalin és Ligeti Lajos hagyatékának témához kapcsolódó kézirataiból. A legérdekesebb dokumentumokból a konferencia helyszínén is megtekinthető volt egy kiállítás. Birtalan Ágnes tárlatvezetésével lehetőség nyílt megtekinteni a Szépművészeti Múzeum „A Nagy Falon innen és túl” című kiállítását is.

The international conference entitled Aspects of Manchu Studies was successfully held on 21-22 May 2026, organized by the Department of Mongolian and Inner Asian Studies of ELTE Eötvös Loránd University in cooperation with partner institutions on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Katalin Kőhalmi (1926-2012). The conference was organized and supported by the Centre for Buddhist Studies (ELTE)), the Department of Mongolian Language and Linguistics, the Department of Literary and Art Studies of the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian Association for Manchu Studies, the Embassy of Mongolia in Hungary and the Oriental Collection of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
At the opening of the conference, Ágnes Birtalan, Professor of the Department of Mongolian and Inner Asian Studies at ELTE, Imre Hamar, Director of the Institute of East Asian Studies, and N. Enkhtaivan, Ambassador of Mongolia to Budapest, delivered speeches, and the greetings of D. Zayabaatar, Vice-Rector of the National University of Mongolia and Secretary General of the International Association for Mongol Studies, were read out by G. Eldev-Ochir, Deputy Dean of the School of Sciences of the National University of Mongolia. After that, Ágnes Birtalan read out the memoirs of András Róna-Tas, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences about Katalin Kőhalmi, and Sh. Egshig, Professor of the National University of Mongolia, shared memories and photographs of Katalin Kőhalmi.
More than 40 researchers from 10 countries presented at the conference on diverse aspects of Manchu linguistics, culture, and history, as well as topics related to their broader context. The speakers included both renowned scholars and young researchers, and the forum provided an excellent opportunity for them to exchange ideas. At the end of the conference, Ágnes Birtalan summarized the results, and T. Otgontuul and B. Egshig, professors of the Mongolian State University, thanked the organizers for the succesful event. Professor Otgontuul also invited the participants to the scientific conference on Manchu studies to be held in Ulaanbaatar in May 2027.
On the 0th day of the conference, the participants had an opportunity to visit the Oriental Collection of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where Máté Rottár presented some Manchu-related pieces from the collection, as well as a selection of manuscripts related to the topic from the estates of Katalin Kőhalmi and Lajos Ligeti. An exhibition of the most interesting documents was also on display at the conference venue. With the guidance of Ágnes Birtalan, it was also possible to view the exhibition “The Great Wall of China – Within and Beyond” at the Museum of Fine Arts.
